I recently purchased a 92 that has no headliner in the targa top. My questions are these? Has anyone reading this replaced a headliner? Does anyone have a pattern? The board and fasteners are missing. Anyone having knowledge of how to do this and care to share that knowledge please jump in. Thanks in advance!
I have a transparent top as well and I am looking for a blackout panel (headliner) too. Apparently there are panels that have some sort of clips on the sides that hold it up so you don't have to attach any adhesive retainers to the clear top. Again, I think the aforementioned dealers have them as well. I haven't gotten one yet so I have no personal insight to give you. There are forum topics about this that a search will reveal as well.

There are no fasteners just get a piece of cardboard and fit it in there and make a pattern. The original is a fiberglass board you will need to hunt down this. The use your cardboard to make it right. Then go to JoAnn fabrics and get the headliner material and use 3m spray glue to stick it on use thin coats on the headliner so it does not bleed through. JoAnn's will most likely have a backer board that will work that will glue in too. I would guess about $20 to $30 you will have a nice headliner.
have a 92 coupe as well with bronze acrylic top and went thru same issues of darkening/heat reduction here in Florida....
Results of trial and error/ $:
cling, in my experience would NOT adhere to acrylic.. only glass ...waste of $ IMHO
cardboard fits poorly and sagged due to heat buildup...waste of $ IMHO
my fix:
1. bought old scratched solid top at junkyard for $300
2. took to MAACO and had it painted for $150 (with incentive that if wife liked results would paint rest of car....both turned out GREAT)
3. bought headline fabric at fabric sore and had auto upholsterer mount $75
Now use Solid top for hot summer driving May Thru ????
use clear for remaining sunny months

Or you can buy mine at forum price.
This for a painted top only.
Unfortunately backer boards are not sold unless you buy the fabric on it for upwards of $150 plus shipping . If you need a backer board, you can make one out of thick poster board sold at places like Staples.
I've had a few customers elect to just glue the material right to the fiberglass. Takes some careful trimming, but they seemed satisfied with the result.
So with my New to Me, used glass targa top. The sun was beating down on me today. I felt like I was out in the sun in a big fish tank. So I decided to make my own removable sunshade headliner.
I bought a piece of tri-fold foam board from Micheals for $18. And made a template out of paper, then transferred it to the foam board, and cut it out with a razor knife.
The results are promising! The sun visors hold the front in pretty well. I might get some Velcro strips in the morning. This can be folded up and stored in the back when not in use. I also might cover it with black felt to make it look snazzy...

I have used 1/8" Masonite for backers in other vehicles. Make a cardboard template as suggested, transfer to Masonite, available at any Lowes or Home Depot, cut it out and glue on the fabric! Lots easier than trying to find an original core to re-cover!
