Just backed the 89 out of the garage and noticed a stream of water on the ground following me and sure enough it is leaking water but i can't see where. It seems to be leaking from the back of the engine as it is dripping down by the oil filter. Need to get it to the shop but in the meantime any ideas?

Had the same problem. Turned out to be the water pump. Don't know how it didn't come down to the earth before that. New pump no more leak.
Just found a small leak in my 89, coming from the LF of the intake manifold. Looks like a new gasket is in it's future.

Sometimes retorqueing the bolts will stop these leaks, the 2 front and the 2 rear bolts are in blind holes, so you don't have to worry about disturbing the thread sealer..What do you have to lose....
This could be the OPs problem also, the rear of the intake could be leaking coolant....Hope not.....WW
Mine is a pretty good leak come s right over my oil filter and continues to leak after I shut car down. I will fill it with water tomorrow and have mechanic look at it will let you know whats up hopefully not a frost plug or gasket. If its a head gasket then I guess I will freshen top half of engine , new heads etc .
Well it looks like it is coming from the head gasket area. I don't think I will bother pulling it apart and putting new heads probably over the next couple of months will start looking at a new 383 as they are pretty reasonable.
