I have an 87 that recently has had the accelerator stick, almost as if the cruise control is on. When I remove my foot from the gas pedal it either maintains the speed I was going or sometimes begins to accelerate. Tapping the brake fixes the problem. I have tried using the cruise and then turning it off hoping that would solve the problem but it doesn't.
Try lubricating the accelerator mechanism in the engine compartment, and all other cable connections.
May not solve the problem, but it is a simple, and cheap start.

I found out that mousies had chewed a small hole in the vacuum line that went to the vacuum canister located under the driver's side headlight. That solved my intermittent problems with my 87's erratic behavior.
Good luck!
Agreed with above. Pull the cruise control first, and then shoot some chain lube onto the linkage and up the sheath for the throttle cable. It will make it butter smooth.
Disconnect the cruise control cable from the throttle body to eliminate it as a source of your problem.
I had a throttle body hangup because I put the screw clamp for the accordion coupler on the linkage side and it interfered with the throttle cable.
