Wellllllllll....they're not "bad" for factory installed audio...but they're not the most durable by any means. The sound quality is "adiquate" at best.

Re: What's wrong with the Bose system? (95AquaC4)

I see alot of posts talking negatively about the Bose system in our vettes. What gives? I love mine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think mine sounds fine too. Of course when compared to the monster systems of today a factory system of a decade ago aint gonna compare (duh) But like when i was driving home from work yesterday with the roof panel off on the freeway with AC/DC blasting it sounded pretty damned fine. Now if I can just get the cd player fixed.
Actually, starting in..I THINK 90, 91, or 92, they started making them actually BETTER. Bose GOLD I believe:confused: I agree though, I've heard some bose sounds systems sound pretty good actually. (The ones in C5's are pretty good, I must say)
I really think it's just the desire to keep up with new technology. I happen to like the Bose sound and can't imagine why anyone would spend major bucks on a car stereo - I'm into horsepower and driveability mods, myself. I did spend about $200 to have the CD player fixed but found it a "well worth it" investment. With the windows down and the top removed, I really want to listen to the exhaust note - the stereo is just something to fill in with if I'm on the highway and in the cruise mode. Can't really fault the Bose, it sounds fine in my Vette. :yesnod:
Re: What's wrong with the Bose system? (mid life 90)
Bose is a great marketing company, but they don't know much about making good audio components. They are failiure prone, and sound like crap. I have gotten to the point that I never even turn the silly thing on anymore. I prefer listening to my engine, and exhaust. I have a killer system that came out of my '87 coupe, but I don't want to tear up the dash, and interior to put it in................so I live with the BLOSE system. :U

the problem with the bose is its as old as your car. im sure it was fine when the car was new.
Re: What's wrong with the Bose system? (stillthere)
Blose was good when it was new? I doubt that.
Infinti has an excellent stereo, as does many other quailty cars.
BOSE is bargain basement, K-Mart, flea market, yard sale, never be stolen junk. It doesn't even work. The bass is from outer space, a huge garbage can? The highs are? The midrange is on a walk about.
Really crap. I don't even turn it on. I didn't buy 300 hp to listen to a cheap tuner. But it does fill the hole in the console and it makes the radio mast go up and down. So for that Kudos to Bose. The secret to living with a Bose is don't trun it on.
I've got the 96 Bose and IMHO, it's very poorly equalized. To keep the low end resonance down to an acceptable level I have the bass cranked all the way down. I hate to admit it, but Ford does a much better job of designing car stereos.
Also I had to stop using the car speed volume control thing,it was jumping up and down, scared the poopie out of me the first couple of times.
Looks like it's getting time to go with an aftermarket unit.
Eric
Mine has no balance control which is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Other then that I don't mine the sound.
No balance control here either. How are you supposed to listen to each speaker individually to see which one is the culprit? Other than that, I have poor stereo reception with mine. Besides that it sounds alright. Definately gonna throw it out the window when I get the money to do so :)
