Re: What I hate about Corvettes (Oly)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was a bit unprepared for the cost of repairs. I have learned to live with it. After all is said and done, the positives of Corvette ownership greatly outweigh the negatives.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The day I drove it home the alternator died....3 weeks later the dual mass flywheel self destructed taking out the clutch and monday I take it back prolly for a trannie rebuild judging by the noises Im hearing and Ive owned it 6 weeks so far. Luckily I DID pay for the extended warranty and theyve already paid for wayyyy more in rapairs than what I paid them and I still have 11.5 months to go on it. Its a '91 and has 101k on it and drives like a dream. Every time I drive her I get this big silly grin on my face that just wont go away. I guess its a good thing Im currently not involved as I could definitely see my vette as *the other woman* in any relationship I had.....did I say that I love my vette? :)
Kdrhpe, Your point is well taken, especially by new C4 owners such as myself :D My advice to you is to ignore negative criticism from individuals that don't comprehend while reading. Thanks for all the heads up advice that I should beware of
does he owe you money, or what?
ya, all those things plus things like the visors fall apart etc... its insane but i still absolutely love my car! if it was easy, everyone would own one :)

Re: What I hate about Corvettes (MinnesotaWhite)
Sorry but...what other car out there do you get the performance for the $$???
My car pulls like a bat out of hell, and I can take it around corners so fast I can scare my passengers.
If you want a car with top interior fit/finish...buy a BMW for $50K...and then whine on the BMW forum that it doesn't have enough acceleration or you can't corner it as fast as you want.
I'll never understand people saying Corvettes are expensive to maintain. (Not referring to Kdrhpbeuif's post, but I've just heard that on the forum a bit) I've had a heater core go (whopping $30) and I replaced the battery once. Yeah the top leaks tho, gotta get new stripping.
look fella's all of your whining has been done in every forum of every car that i have ever seen. the coug's have weak alternators, bad fuel pumps, and generally, the Autoamatics last no more than 50K.... its all part of owning ANYTHING. nothing is perfect.
wanna know the reason civics breka down less? cause they've mad elike a billion of em and are pretty good at it by now, vettes, cougars, ferrari's whatever the hell else that is rare.
i used to think that the reason we had probs with the coug was that it was Ford's bastard child but i think i just realized that our problems are minimal compared to some.,... too bad ford screwed our showroom performance...grrr
As far as your SYS light after the stereo swap, you need to call Gordon Killebrew. I was at Cruise-in III, standing beside him while he was looking over a bright aqua metallic...the young owner asked about the SYS, and Gordon said that to install an aftermarket system, you have to install a couple of in-line resistors to simulate a load condition that the CCM is looking for.
Why should GM have given a rat's patootie about how this setup would affect someone who wanted to change out their stereo? It's not their problem.
ok th e c-4's have some quirks. this just gives added character. beside it gives us something to work on. i think it would be pretty boring if all you did was turn the key and drive.
not sure why your water pump gave mine had 95k before i replaced it.
the exhaust, well even if it sounded nice i think i would have changed it anyways. beside not everyone like a load car. who these people are i don't know they should be taken out and shot
the temp can always be change, it's all emisions blame the tree huggers :jester
ok you got me on the weatherstrip, i just replaced mine and the rust was crazy. car wasn't rusty just the weatherstrip. but no leaks so i can't complain too much.
the removable roof. hmm trying to get the cash together but i was going to combine the R-D racing brace with the rain coat in MID's catalog. it's supose to be drivable at highway speeds but with a few mods that can be changed. i hope
the radio, well i never keep the stock one it's just a personal thing. be gald it's not like some of the Gm trucks i've seen where the radio is in the dash cassete is some where else. the dash looks like you catch change a thing.
my only complant with the vette it that VATS. :smash:
I just thought it would be interesting to mention some of the not so great things and why they were never addressed.
They're addressed almost weekly here in the forum. I love driving with the top off! It's a blast, and the 'vette it great. I just can't see complaining when you have such a fine automobile. Think about how many people out there would LOVE to have a Corvette, but can't. They can only dream, on the other hand the Corvette owners are nit-picking about how "poorly" it drives with the top off? Let's try to be a bit more humble guys, shall we?

BINGO!!! Right on the money. I also love it topless and drive it more often that way than with it on. I dont mind the way it drives...frankly I dont see that it affects it that much to be honest. But maybe Im having so much fun driving her I dont notice (or whine about) any minor imperfections. Its a vette damnit! Its hard to get in and out of, it rides *extremely* firm (which I LOVE) and its a tight fit inside. Its finicky, tempermental, sexy and fast as hell. And I dont have a problem with that

All of the above couldnt have been said more perfect! :flag

By "addressed" I meant fixed by the engineers in the later model years.

So your saying I should just sit around and accept engineering flaws because there are people on this planet that don't have a Corvette? Maybe if they worked a little harder they could get one. I would love to have a Ferrari but I don't expect people with Ferrari's to not complain about their cars. I guess if I buy a million dollar house I should just be thankful for what I have and shouldn't complain about my sink not working. I like the car but I certainly don't worship it. Almost everybody has missed my point on this post. I'm not bashing corvettes I'm speaking of some of the shortcomings. If you don't want to talk about them then don't post. If you can't find any shortcomings because you are blinded by the corvette hype then don't post.
As far as body flex with the roof off goes......there have been tons of posts from people complaining, not just me.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
