Default Question about a 1985 C4 RPO Code

So in decoding the RPO codes in my newly acquired C4, I noticed one code that I was not expecting, the NN5 code, which stands for California emission package. Is this on every '85 C4 or just the ones shipped to Cali? Also, what would the California emission package make different on my car VS one that was not shipped to cali?
Thanks!

Here's the way I interpreted the NN5 in early year production. Cali emissions warranties on components were different than requirements in the other states. The cars were "surcharged" for that warranty and required identification in some manner so they received the NN5 which is an "over-ride" option and not a production RPO. $99 comes to mind. I remember that as I thought it ODD not to be just rounded to $100

Years ago I believe I documented that but I didn't bother today to check it any further.

I don't recall there even being different PROM calibrations for '85 BUT again I didn't check today.

So it reminded the sales department to ding someone an extra $100 for being shipped to Cali? Interesting

No if that RPO code wasn't on a car presented for a Cali "warranty repair" then there wouldn't have been the extended coverage and the repair wouldn't have been covered. The Cali regulations at the time covering warranties I'm quite sure only applied to cars "sold" in Cali and no others.

Well it is an interesting tid bit of information. I wish it was Z51 instead of NN5!
