Default Newbie! Hi! **update**

Well I test drove 2 Vettes today. An 84 with 126,000 miles. This poor car was not taken care of, made me sad. The engine was smoking, it was a basket-case. I can't understand how some people let Corvettes get like this.

But I did have the pleasure of driving an 89 Conv with 43,000 one owner miles. In fact he used to show it. All the paper work was there including the "laminated" window sticker. The wrench to remove the hard top was still in the plastic bag. Chrome wheels. A Corvette car cover was in the back. From looking under the car, I doubt it was ever in the rain. Ahhh. The perfect Covette all for only $16,990. But when we got back from the test drive, the dealer got chewed out becuase the car had already had a deposit on it. I find out tommorow if the guy actually bought it. If not, I will probably take it home. Wish me luck!

$17,000 for an 89 Convertable is pretty steep. Sounds like it was in excellent shape, but you could nice LT1 for that much.

Good luck, although $17k is a little high. my 95 with 45k miles cost me $19k, and that was before the economy went all to hell :yesnod:

Sounds a bit high here also. I gave 16K for my 1994 with 42,000 on her.

My turn to chime in on the price....$11,900 for my '91 average miles at 99k but spotless condition inside and out. Matter of fact the same place I adopted mine has a sharp '89 vert for $9900 right now. Dont know the mileage though.

Good luck finding "your" vette, my two cents? Real easy to fall in love with the vette that's in front of you, take your time, search around, you don't want to see one for sale later and say " Damn, I wish I would have found that one first". Honestly I think most of the people on the forum have seen a few they wish they could trade theirs for ( I know I have ), I'll always want another vette, but always want to keep mine too. Just be careful and don't get ripped. Compare prices vs mileage vs year in the C4 for sale section, and auto trader online, even ebay, that will give you an idea of what's selling for what. You can always have a forum member look out an out of state car for you, and then travel and drive it home also

Wow, that's a whole lot of money for that 'vette. Let me give you a piece of advice, don't buy from a Corvette-Only dealer unless it's something so rare or out of this world that you'll never find it anywhere else. A Corvette-Only dealer will almost always charge too much for their 'vettes. http://www.autotrader.com is where I'd be every single day if I were you. Also, in that price range, I'd go for a '93-'96 'vette. Almost always newer is better, and the LT1 demands respect. Good luck with your decision, make the right one for yourself.

Yikes, 17k is a lot for that car. Laminated window stickers are available for $35 from the corvette museum. The miles are definitely low, but that doesn't mean it won't have some problems. It may not, and for that price better not. But for comparison, I recently purchased my 89 coupe for $7k, and it had 47900 miles on it. Not is isn't a vert, nor was it a show car, but it's real pretty, and runs well. With occasional minor problems, which i hope I have fixed.
Good luck, they are all beautiful, and it really is difficult to not want to take them all home. However, keep shopping, and you can find a nice vert for much less, and spend the extra on mods or repairs.

Wow, and to think I used to work at that dealership and they were gonna still charge me $16K, and they wanted $7700 for the beat-up 84. In general, from the sites I have been on checking prices, I seems to me the Vette market isn't as heathly now as it was in the past? A couple of years ago, that 89 Vert would have brought $16K or more for sure. Sept 11th maybe?

Another question. If I get a square back 84-90 and convert to the 91-96 round back, is that generally looked down upon or is it cool? :nono:

Hey good luck man. I don't think it sounds like to bad of a deal. It just depends on where you live as to what kind of deals you can get on one. :)

I would keep on looking .....take your time and look at a number of vettes. There are plenty of C4's out there with low miles at great prices. This is a buyers market....so look for a great vette at a great price!! I would start by checking the C4 for sale section on this site and traderonline.com
Good luck. Find your vette!! :)
