Default Corvette Central Mufflers

I bought the Corvette Central mufflers that are designed to factory specs and had them put on this past week. What a difference it made. I had to do some freeway driving that has been a nightmare because of the drone. Today it was so pleasant. I could even hear my stereo for the first time. I really like these mufflers.

I like loud and drone does not bother me. I dont listen to the stereo in my vette, the engine is music to me.

There were no mufflers before. It was straight through pipes. Driving on the freeway was mind-numbing from the noise. There's still a rumble, but it is reasonable and I can talk to my daughter when we go out on a ride.

So, then you'd have no interest in this thread.......

Having driven my C4 on several cross-country trips, I understand the dissatisfaction with loud/droning exhausts. There is a lot to be said for stock-type mufflers.

Excuse me but it looks like you have been on here long enough to know we like to go to the lite side once and a while.

most stock, aftermarket mufflers have dual functioning tips, and I'm guessing they flow a tad bit better. I had a set of stock replacements (from Mid-America Corvette) on my 85 and they actually get better or sound better with age. on the no drone thing. I had a set of "monza's" on my 85 when I bought - terrible drone, replaced with a set of walker ultraflows - really terrible, ear piercing drone. i ended up with the stock replacements. believe it or not, they actually sound pretty good. not factory quiet - a little louder with a slight rumble.

Do you still get a drone with other aftermarket parts such as flowmaster or magnaflow? Might have to reconsider my wishlist haha.

It's been my experience that mufflers with flat tops/bottoms will produce drone. Mufflers that have no flats...i.e. are oval-shaped....have a good chance of being drone-free.

I believe it has something to do with resonances set up by the pulsing movements of the flat surfaces....similar to a base drum. But, I've been wrong before.

I've heard that too, seems like the later years the oval shaped ones got more oval shaped.

I have the OBX cat back system. Has a really nice rumble and no drone at all. I purchased some stock tips from a member here as I don't like chrome dual tips. I was actually going to remove the mufflers doing a muffler delete with just tailpipes and existing obx resonators. But I think I'd be asking for trouble.
