I need to replace my 86's power antenna. I would like to keep the flush mount. The motor is gone. I have all of the old antenna parts.
I see lots of after market stuff but they appear to have the non-flush mount.
Anyone have any suggestions for this.
Your mast, flexible cable etc is 100% without faults? A creative person should be able to repair it. Here's an older image of the early antenna and if you could cannibalize enough parts from other similar GM antennas then I'd say there should be no problem with a repair. I've had many disassembled but years ago. Yours would need to be an original antenna and it should have a label on it with a part number that could be used for reference. Post that number.
A motor failure was unusual and I still believe would be.
I don't have an early car but I do believe even that package requires some "creativity" to use when the mast tube isn't a direct match. We used to swap mast/tubes from JY units to repair them years ago when GM discontinued that split-halved motor housing. The tough part of the JY thing is that these cars aren't around any longer.
I've a friend who does F-body and A-body Pontiac parts ONLY and still swaps the antenna parts to complete units.
$170 is not bad. I found one on ebay for my 88 from a Chevy dealer that several new antennas, 88 and up style, still in the OEM parts bag for $159. Best deal I could find so I bought it. Plastic ribbon broke somewhere in the old unit and I could not fish it out. Unit was not fun to remove.
