I am going to Carlisle this weekend and I want to figure out the best way to detail my motor and engine cavity. I usually just get in there with a rag and wipe everything down.. I have seen some people just take a bottle of ArmorAll and just spray everything... I am really looking at getting into the hard to reach areas like behind the turn signals and the fog lights under the hood of course and the hard to reach hoses... Any tips?
:D :D
Best advice I can give you---don't use armor all. That stuff is like a magnent for dust.
Get some Simple Green, and dilute it, and start cleaning. I also use Aluminum polish on my control arms and all the stainless steel piping. I use a foaming tire cleaner on my wheel wells, and have heard that lemon pledge does wonders for the underside of your hood.
The above advice is good! Keep the armor all away. It is a DUST MAGNET. Polish anything aluminum or ss with some mothers or flitz. I do use tire dressing on the wheel wells and rubber hoses. The pledge I have not tried yet on the black underside of the hood. I'll have to try that.
The upper control arms when polished look like chrome! Adds a nice touch.
If it's "tips" that you want, then it's medical swabs that you will need. No pun intended, I'm actually serious. In order to reach the unreachable areas under the hood I use medical swabs and they work very well.

I use Purple Power straight for underside of hood, wheel wells and really greasey area. Engine detailing kit from Corvette Central of the motor. The cleaner works good. You can spray the detailer on everything under the hood. Smooth surfaces I wipe off after about 20 minutes. It has been a month on my Dakota, just did the Vette. :flag
