My first post
Every 80's muscle car I have ever owned since I was 18 years old has always been bought on a whim. The purchase of this Corvette was no different. While helping a friend look for a C3 on the bay I came across this C4. It was the color combo that I love on most any car, Silver and black, auto transmission. The opening bid was $3500. I put a $4500 bid in and forgot about it. Five days later I win the auction. A tad bit freaked out because I knew nothing about the car except what the owner posted in the ebay listing I emailed him and began asking questions about the car. Satisfied with the answers I hitched a ride with my friend and off we went.
Upon arrival we saw the car looked better in the pictures, but in my experience they almost always do. Bottom line was the paint was original, the body was straight, no leaks, fluids were the right color, no interior rattles started right up cold, idled right, went straight down the road, stopped fairly straight and shifted fine. Every thing worked. The dash is bright, it has all the switches and labels, the power antenna worked, the AC works and all the weather stripping was fairly new as well as the targa top, tires and brakes, it has a flow master exhaust.
The interior is decent The seats are worn, but not ripped.
The cherry on top was the previous owner handed me a attache case that included service records for the car from 1994 to present day. Yea....I know, I know WOW!

So How did I get such a great deal. The than current owner relocated to this country from the United Kingdom for employment. He works for the Cadbury company (they make chocolate) Upon moving here he had always wanted a Corvette, he bought one and enjoyed it. His company recalled recalled him and he only had 8 weeks to get his affairs in order. The last thing to go was the Corvette and I was the lucky winner.
Driving the car home was an experience in it self. I'm used to late model BMW's and Mercedes Benz's. The car is raw fun to drive and the brakes took some getting used to. I'm sure it was considered fast in 1988.
First thing I had to do was get it painted and find a set of stock chrome rims. Now that both things are done and it's been inspected I can now proudly show off some pics. You can't see in the pics but I painted the Calipers Corvette red as well.
I will be ordering a new center console armrest, visors and look for replacement perforated seat covers. I may do the foam on the driver side as well. The interior is in pretty good shape just need a a few tweaks here and there.
Now, on to the pics.
Keep us posted on your progress I am new to this forum also having just purchased a vette last month. For seat info search Antfarmer2's thread. He even did a seat foam switch a roo. Meaning he switched the passenger foam to the drivers side foam. I don't know if that will work for you but you may want to check it out.
Cheers..
I have the orginal wheels, they need to be refurbished. I may try to do it myself as a side project over the winter.
Believe it or not Macco on Richmond Terrace painted it. I know the Owner from the ELKs lodge we belong to out here. He did the right thing by me.
I'm looking forward to freshening up the interior and doing some new lighting at some point as well.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Doesn't sound like you are doing it on the cheap, but there are some recent posts about new seat covers that look excellent but are inexpensive. ($150 comes to mind).
See you down the road.
