Default Hard brakes

My brakes are hard on my 90 C4. I had the MC rebuilt and they are still hard. Can anyone offer any suggestions/direction as to fixing them.

Sound like your vacumme boster. Pump up your brakes with the car off and hold the pedal. Then start the car the pedal should go down a bit.

Look at the vacumme hose going to it might just have a leak in it.

antfarmer2 my brakes do what you described but like the OP my brakes are hard when I'm driving the car. Peddle is stiff and barely moves downward but the car seems to stop ok. This is my first vette so I have no idea if this is normal. 1994 C4

OP I have researched this and found a good bit of info that points to codes in the anti lock brake computer. Seems that some codes can cause the brakes to be hard till you clear them. I think you need a special reading device for this computer to be able to see and clear the codes. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Check and clear the codes, check the brake pad's they need to have high friction compound. basic car brake pads do not work, you should need minimal brake pedal effort to excite the Abs when all is good.
Booster failures are common with the plastic booster.

Default It is the ABS controller!

Just finished up with my 94 ragtop a couple weeks ago and can report in my case that it is the ABS controller.
Originally after resetting the codes the brakes started working great, After several days in the garage the hard brake problem was back. Reset the controller again and brakes started working again, so I replaced the abs controller and it has not failed. Now I get into the abs mode with moderate pedal pressure at most any speed. It is great to finally have decent brakes again.
