Dumb C4 wheel and tire question ZR1 wheels
Hey guys, sorry for the dumb question, but I am currently running the stock 16 inch wheels with 255 tires on my 1985 Corvette. I am looking into a nice set of chrome ZR1 wheels (C4) that are 17 inch wheels with 275 tires on them.
Will there be any kind of fitment issues? I figured a C4 wheel is a C4 wheel and they didnt change the wheel wells at at from 84-96 but I just wanted to be sure.
I sure hope that there will not be any problems because the Chrome ZR1 wheels looks awesome!!
Thanks!

Your stock 16" wheels have a 38mm offset. The later ZR-1 style front wheels (17x9.5") have a 56mm offset. That's a difference of 3/4". While that doesn't seem like a lot, the later wheels will sit that 3/4" further inboard compared to the OEM wheels.
I tried fitting a set of 56mm offset ZR-1 wheels on my '87 and that 3/4" difference was very obvious. There wasn't any rubbing or interference at full lock, but it just didn't look right.
You can get 3'4" adapters or you can buy the ZR-1 style wheels that are made with the 38mm offset.
One nice thing about the 275/40-17 tires is that the dimensions are nearly identical to the original 255/50-16 tires.

Hmm, that is something to think about. You would only need the 3/4" adapters on the front wheels? The thing is I am getting a nice chrome set plus basically brand new tires for $500. If I were to buy a pair with the offset already in the wheel, it would cost alot more than that. Can you buy wheel spacers in sets of two? I would HATE to have to use those...
Corvette central sells the chrome A molds in 38 or 56mm offset, there is a link to the 84-87 direct fit ones.
Note the 11 inch will protrude from the body, unless you change the rear to negative camber.
I have 9.5 inch wheels all round with 275 40 17 tires.
They fit nice with the one inch adapters.
One word of warning chrome does not last forever, if you have a slow leak and keep filling it the moisture in the air can attack the chrome.
You must keep them clean or the chrome will come off.
2x 9.5 and 2x 11 inch.

I don't think that a camber change will be enough to move the top of the tire back under the fenderwell opening. Even if you could, the amount of negative camber you would need could cause handling issues.
There never was a chrome ZR-1 style wheel available from GM; it sounds like you are looking at aftermarket wheels.

You need to actually get the dimensions/offset for those wheels. There's some other offsets offered and the F-bodies used some very unusual combinations. All will likely require spacers/adapters but the dimensions might actually change.
The offset will be cast into the wheel back-side as well as the width. It's also possible that the wheels are maybe 9" vs. 9 1/2. Lots to check.
Offset could be cast into the wheel as maybe ET XX or just a dimension that is always a metric number.

Snapshots answered all of the questions there might have been. Either 3/4" or 1" spacers/adapters would make the fit fine. If you've got 9 1/2" wide wheels now a 3/4" would very closely duplicate the wheel/tire fitment, the 1" moves the tire/wheel 1/4" more outboard which fills the wheel-house very well.
Spacers/adapters are discussed quite frequently and most I believe settle on an adapter style, it would be good to have them hub-centric to the car and also the wheel.
Try a WTB here on the forum and see what might turn up.

How much do they usually sell for? Not wanting to spend $200 on spacers.
What do the wheels look like without spacers?

You can find them on ebay for around $50-100.
You only need two if you are using the 11 inch rear wheels, you only need them for the 9.5 with 56 mm offset

It goes on to mention "bolt centric" so I'd shop for other than this.
Important? I believe yes when dealing with anything 3/4" or more thick.

Would these work better? They are cheaper as well.
