Thank you Cliff. That clears up a lot of confusion. Right at the starter location is a green wire with a small clamp that then continues with
a female spade. The clamp has a step with a hole that looks as if it would slip over a bolt. In addition there is a blue wire that ends with a female plug. Not sure where these two go.

Here is an image from my shop manual, its an 85 however they should have the same configuration. Apart from alternator and Vats.

The green wire is the one at the very top of my picture. It goes to the coolant temperature sensor between spark plugs #6 and #8.
