Does anyone else find the C4 style very striking? I mean obviously since we are C4 owners we are biased, but really the design is very cool. It seems that many non-C4 owners find it rather bland. I think all generations are quite beautiful. I know the C5 has some great lines, but actually I don't think it is any better looking overall then a C4. Granted the front of the C5 appears lower and faster, but I think the style gets lost by the time you pass the firewall all the way to the rear.
One thing I would agree to is the C4 may appear less striking from a distance (say the opposite side of a highway) by up close it is very very sharp looking.
The C4 style has never appeared edgy or angular to me. To stand at the rear quater panel on either side and gaze at the hood line as it sweeps over the sublime fender lines really is pleasing to my eye. The clam shell hood is awsome. Follow those lines back to where the rear hatch meets the body and the rear widens over the tires, back to a....hmmm... how to describe it...."tight" rear end.
All Corvettes look great, but the C4 just has that look to it. It's not really a sporty look (as in M3), or fast look (as in Ferreri). It has a very capable look. Sort of something like looking at a parked fighter jet.
The C4 really has such an interesting (albeit expensive) personality, I never understand when people comment negatively against it.

Re: C4 styling (Aaron71771)
Ive heard the C4 often referred to as "the sportcar of corvettes". I think that says a lot. Best of the very best. Im sure i could have afforded a C5 but frankly it just reminded me too much of my ex wifes camaro inside. I worked on fighter jets in the USAF and the C4 cockpit bears a striking resemblance to some of the fastest jets on the planet and I dont for a second think thats a coincidence. Function follows design. Technnologically speaking the C5 might be a more advanced vette but I dont believe for a second it handles a damned bit better than my '91. But then like you said I too am probably a bit prejudiced. My C4 is hard to get in and out of, the cockpit is cramped and it kills my back on long drives...but I wouldnt have it any other way. Ill run and play with any vette on the road...sure a Z06 will eat my lunch but Ill still give it a run for its money. And being a fellow vette owner Id give him/her a big smile and a wave afterwards too.
Love every style corvette, my favorite is the C4 and my favorite color is black :D and you have my favorite C4 ( ZR-1 ) with a Calloway right on top of the list too. Great car you have there
Alone, or among many other cars... the c4 looks like a weapon going mach 1.
But parked next to a c5, I gotta admit.. the C4 starts to look blocky and understyled.

I agree, Love my car but it looks a little "dated" next to a c-5. A buddy at work has a white 97 C5 and we regularly park next to each other and compare. There are things I like about both..
I rode in a new (at the time) 2000. To me, it was like being in a Lexus. Way too civilized! I mean it was fast, and handled well, but it was too damn quiet!
I like knowing I'm in a hot rod. I like the noise, and the feel. It has to be in your gut!

Back in the early '80's I was a field tech and one of my regular customers was the local Chevy dealership. They always had a new C4 on the showroom floor and Id drool over it every service call I made there. Whats ironic about the above quote is that the auto magazines and industry reviewers said the EXACT same thibg about the C4. They said it was way too *civilized*, that it should be a seat of the pants thrill ride like earlier vettes. They said it was wayyyyyy too dmaned expensive and one quote I remember exactly was that "the new Corvettes are almost apologetic about their power, performance, handling and grace". And if you compare it to the brute force approach used in oh say the 66 or 67 big block vettes, yeah, thats a valid point. My '91 has the ZF 6 speed which is a wee bit on the noisy side and she has flowmasters as well. I dont know...maybe the C5 guys turn up their nose at me when I pull up next to them on the freeway or at the stoplight (frankly I doubt that many do), but by god you know I drive a vette. Theres no doubt about that :yesnod:
I like most Corvettes. The 1974-1982 are OKAY but are, to me, the most plain of them all, especially the 1978-1982. I love the mid-year Corvettes, and are my personal favorites. The 1973 is very striking as well. The chrome rear and color-keyed front are very slick. The C4 is great, and for its time it was so perfectly styled and suiting to the times I don't think it could've been much better. I think that nowadays the harder lines of the C4 are less appreciated. The only weak point of the C4 is a direct frontal view, I tend to think that is the worst angle for the C4 on the exterior.
Think of how innovative the C2 was. IRS, bold new lines, and special attention to performance made it the most technologically advanced production car of the day. Think back to 1980. The body style is getting pretty old and everyone's ready for a change. Look at that change! The 1982 and 1984 Corvettes share nothing in common in terms of looks AND performance. Ingenious design and function, a perfect car for the times. Fast forward to 1996, the release of the 1997 Corvette. How innovative was the design? Not very, if you look you can see ALOT of the C4 in the C5 design. The C4 started a new breed of Corvette, which hadn't been done since 1968. It was time for a big change, and the C4 will carry ALOT of heritage, more than the C5 will.

Re: C4 styling (Aaron71771)
The C4 may be the last (for a little while) of what I call the 50/50 design theory that all truly classic cars possess. Approximately 50% of the cars' length is forward of the windshield posts.
The C5 is a Chrysler "cab over" design with the entire cabin located equidistant between the axles
Let's see which one prevails in the long run, the 50/50 or the cab over
I am voting for the 50/50, they have always been the classics since the first days of the automobile. The "cab over" has been done before and it doesn't last. Even Chrysler's viper is a 50/50
Put a set of the Y2k or similar wheels(simple but elegant) on your C4 and you have a timeless classic
