I would find a good shop to do it the back window is a pita I am trying to get mine off without messing it up 409 and plastic seems to work the best. I will leave it off and use my a/c
Window Tinting is what I do for a living so I have over 20 years experience with tint and I would suggest taking it to a professional. You will avoid much aggravation and insure a quality install by doing your homework to find a reputable shop.

I was quoted $300.00 to do the rear and side windows from a shop near me. Does that sound about right? I am concerned about the tint being blurry as I had it done to a car before and it was not as clear as I hoped it would be. Will the rear defroster grid be a problem?

that is twice the price they ask around here and yes you can ruin your defrosters if it needs to be redone most will tell you no warrenty.

the film itself is greatly improves, but it is truly some art in getting a proper fit on complex curves, especially on such a huge piece of glass. the last precut kit I bought, having done a few before, didn't turn out to my satisfaction; surely nothing like the pro job on the Vette or our new Outback.
Indeed, as stated, if you have old film to remove, it is very easy to ruin the hatch defrost film either by cutting or pulling it off with an aftermarket applied film.
As a motorcycle rider, hence very defensive driver, I urge lighter tint, which blocks virtually the same UV and heat, yet allows other drivers to see you, while not diminishing night view thru the hatch, in particular (as my first dark film did... badly).

Sorry man for the late reply but $300 is not out of the norm for some areas. In my area I can get $250 with a high performance film. As far as the tint being blurry I wouldn't worry about that as long as you use a quality product. Defroster not a problem at all but as mentioned before in the event you ever need to remove the tint in the future the defroster can be damaged. If you have used a quality film and an reputable experienced tinter it improves your chances of tint removal without damage to the defroster. The only ones I have had trouble saving are the ones that have cheap tint that has turned purple and have to actually be scraped off. All that being said I can save the defroster on about 99% of all cars needing tint removal not counting those cars with cheap purple tint.
I had my 96 professionally done. I'm a big DIYer, but window tint is something I'd never tackle.
My tinter did the hatch glass in 3 pieces, and ran the seams along the 2 outermost defroster lines I believe. Used Llumar tint. I was very against the idea of 3 pieces, but he sold me on it, and it actually came out amazing....can't see the seams unless you are really looking hard for them.
Agreed - Find a pro in your area, I paid about 190 to do mine from a well known shop here in town and came with lifetime warranty against certain defects/bubbling - I've gone to that place for about 13 years without issue.
You can expect to pay a lot more if you go for those fancy tint materials

FWIW - I had a product called Solar Gard installed on my DD. The inside windshield and driver/pass doors as well.
The results are amazing when the sun is heating up your hands are still cool on the steering wheel.
AC stays cooler too.
This will be installed on the Vette soon.

I can do them both ways, one piece or 3 piece seamed, and just as you say when done properly it's hard for most to tell the difference. Glad to hear you benefitted from a job well done and humble enough to listen to a professionals recommendations.
Some people think they won't like the seams and want one piece but to do in one piece the window struts have to be taken loose so some people prefer the seams. Either way good work stands out.
I had a professional do mine. Side windows are easy but the back window, forget it. I paid $200 (for back and sides) with tax included. Suggest just going very dark on the back glass, you'll regret it otherwise.
