95 Stuck Hood, Easy Release
Just thought that I'd toss this out there again for those that may have not seen it prior. Last night went to open the hood and the driver's side latch hung up and would not release. Investigating the best methods to correct the issue, I found everything from the simple pre-installed emergency release cables (that's on the to-do list) to holes cut though the top I tried the 3/16" rod, about 32" long with a 1" 90 bend on the end, open the drivers door and slide on down the latch bracket, over to the release mechanism and within 30 seconds it was open. Actual holes thru the hood

You can make emergency hood release cables from just about any heavy wire as long as it's fastened securely to the latch release. In my first C4 I used baling wire, wrapped it a few times for strength and durability, it worked fine.

Like the above photos, I learned from the forum also.
Got my cable ( Salt water steel leader line) & crimp connectors from Bass-Pro in the fishing dept. Made sleeves and pull handle from Windex bottle tubing and other plastic tubing I had laying around.

I noticed that your cable seems to be attached to the spring clip that the original hood release cable is attached to. That would be alright unless the spring clip breaks which is what happened to me. My cables are now attached directly to the hood release lever behind the spring clip. Just something to think about.

This would make a good 30 second youtube
Guy that put holes in the hood: that right there is funny

Was browsing around Ecklers today and saw this... Apparently they make a tool for this...

Nicely done. Just curious, have you tested these yet? I'm wondering if the crimp ferrules will bottom out against the side wall of the latch bracket before the lever moves far enough to release the latch.

a re-work may be in order there is in fact an issue with the ferrule hanging up
p.s. you speak as if you have direct knowledge of my short commings regarding this matter

If you take your time shopping, you might even be able to find color-matching cable!

No, I can't speak from personal experience. This is, in fact, a mod that I've been intending to attend to, but still have yet to actually get done. I was just admiring the workmanship on this one, and noticed that it looked as though the cable would have rather limited travel before the ferrule would contact the bracket. It left me wondering if it would move the lever far enough to release the latch.
Time to get this done on mine now, before I need it...

snafu
re-routed over the hood seal instead of through the hole I drilled
now functional for the time being, but re-work is planned
hood release cable retainer "spring clip" is now broken as the spring steel has sprung !
cable end is still intact and functioning, but I'm now tasked with getting a clip.
according to gm parts giant the clip comes on many 90's GM vehicles including c1500 suburban tahoe roadmaster caprice etc etc

It works great but not for the guy whose cable does break.
