Just bought a 1995 with 60,000 miles. Now that I have the car home and have started polishing it I'm noticing numerous stone chips on the hood and windshield. I cannot tell if these are all NEW or they were there before the purchase and just covered up. Are stone chips a problem with Corvettes? What is the best way to cover up/protect the finish. :chevy

Re: Stone Chips (GarySage)
Are you sure you werent just blinded by the beauty of it before you got it home? lol. There was a few very minor issues with mine that I never saw till I got her home. I figure I was just awe struck while I was buying it.
Welcome to the Forum too and dont forget to :seeya
same exact thing happened to me when i bought my car. I was furious. i was absolutley awed by the car when i saw it for the first time and didnt even notice the chips. i remember seeing a couple of chips and said "sure, they'll buff out!!" no, they really don't though. some will cover out with a good wax. also, i had to wet sand and use a plastic polish on my fog and turn lenses. they look a million times better now.
You will find old/new chips when you wax it.
and again and again and again......
Best thing to do when you want to buy a Vette is wash and wax it at the dealers. Then you know it all. :D
I know the feeling. It's all the little things you didn't notice at first. They start to add up after the honeymoon is over. Wait...we were talking about Vettes...sorry. Get yourself a good touch-up paint and some clearcoat. The Vettes that are driven daily (like mine) usually have some chips here and there. I just try to keep up.
Stone chips are inevitable on a daily driver. Mine had like a zillion when I bought it. Filling the big ones, wet sanding the small ones, and buffing out the whole wretched mess has it under control. A good gloss enhancing polish that doesn't dry white goes a long way towards hiding 'em too. It's a never-ending battle, but not too bad if you stay on top of it.
thats going to happen on a driver. every year or two take it to the body shop and get the bumper repainted. looks like new every time. not all that much money.
Think of them as badges of honor. You drive your car. Rock chips show it. Granted over time the qty tends to make it look a tad ratty. Take it in get the front painted.
I remember one time I was driving a different toy of mine up on Skyline (good twisty road in bay area). I had stopped at the store near Alice's. Talking with a few people about the car, and one guy was saying he has one, and he's turbo charged it.... but he never drives it. (I'm not really a fan of garage queens, and he said he doesn't show the car.) Then he mentioned that I had a lot of rock chips up front. I mentioned that I like to drive the car often, and aggresively. Then he tells me that they don't look good. Well right there, he had insulted my daughter. :mad So I told him, that rock chips are manly.
Ok, kinda got off on a tangent there, but chips happen, and they make our jewels look a little tarnished. Even diamonds have flaws. Enjoy the car, and don't worry too much about the little things.
:)
We've all "been there.....done that"!!!! I bought the Chip repair kit and a touchup paint bottle from MidAmerica Designs. I've since become an "expert" in making small paint chips disappear. You can too.
Having paint chips means.........YOU DRIVE THE DAMN THING!!!!!!!!
That's the best part of Vette ownership, by far!!
