:seeya I was thinking of replacing the balljoints on my 90' vette as soon as the time comes... might be sooner than I was hoping for so I thought I would ask if anyone has done this before? How big a job is it really? Thanks

I think the folks over there in tech section should be able to help you out. I had mine done for $1,000 back a few years ago, before I knew that with a little elbow grease (and some blood, :D ) I could've done this myself! :mad What a dumbazz... :cry Now, whenever I take my '86 into a shop for stuff that I wouldn't be able to do myself and the mech would suggest something. That's when I would say, "Oh really, the wear indicator over there seemed new, are you sure?" Punk!
Re: Balljoints! Has anyone replaced them...? (CoolVette86)
I have done them. There are two ways to go. If you go to the dealer for ball joints you get the A-arm assy. with the joint riveted in like factory. This is a bit tuffer actually. But if you get em at Pep boys or wherever You have to dill out the old rivets then they press out like most ball joints. Use a ball joint removal toll cause you cant hammer on aluminum A-arms. And if you think you need shocks or a front spring or mounts, now is the time you will save all the labor. If there original and you can get them do it all at once youll be glad.

Upper ball joints need to be drilled/punched out because they are riveted in. This can be a pain, the rivets are hardened steel.
Lowers need to be pressed in/out.
If you have the time and tools, parts are relatively cheap. Overall, its all not too hard to do. I just finished doing my entire suspension (new everything) front and back and can't believe what a difference it made. How many miles are on you car? While the knuckle is off take a good look at the wheel hub while you're there.
