Default Strange pattern emerging. Scary actually.

I love my vette. No if ands or butts. So this pattern that's happening is bewildering and scary at the same time.

I think I mentioned recently I bought a Miata for the wife as a toy. Nothing fancy just a super small convertible. Fun little car. But very slow. Handles great though and is fun to drive.

What started happening lately is every time we get some free time on the weekend I find were walking out in the back yard where the Vette and the Miata are parked. Actually the Miata in is where the lawn mower was parked (gives you an idea how small it is).

Both are convertibles. The vette looks better, is faster, and when we go to town in it everyone stares and walks up and ask us about it and such. No one notices the Miata. No one pays any attention to the Miata. Its as basic a car as it gets. Wife and I have both said we would sell the Miata in a heart beat if it was a choice between it and the vette so we both like the vette more.

So why are we taking the Miata each time now?????

I know the fact the Miata has a trunk is probably a plus for it but for some reason when we want to go cruising were taking the micro car. WTF?? I can come with no logical reason but it keeps happening over and over.

Anyone else have a car that causes this stuff?

Subconsciously you want to take the Miata and do an LS7 swap...

Jeez how long have you been married, ever heard the phrase or the comical line of once your married your wife takes away the sac.

Now close your eyes and imagine the vette as your sac.
the wife will let you know when you can have it or take it out. As long as she is in control all is well, and you have us to complain to.

Have similar problem......look forward to days off to drive vette...end up choosing sedan...

My theory: Have broken down so many times in vette, ...love her but don't have great trust...

Easy for me. Truck is parked in the street. Corvette is in the garage, with wife's car blocking driveway. Motorcycle is in front of Corvette in garage. Truck wins due to convenience and laziness. Mostly laziness.

"Miata has a trunk"

Yea, I can get a twelve pack in it on a good day. About as effective as the trunk on your lawn mower.

But five months into '96 Vette ownership and my '94 Miata is still not for sale. Love the 'Vette? Absolutely. Trust it? Not so much.

As for speed, there's always something faster. Our C4's can't even take a newer Camaro.

You should enjoy flinging the lightweight champ into some corners and not be concerned. It's an entirely different experience and is still the best car I've ever owned.

AND it has a trunk! LOL.

the movie topgun was on last night....

the navy cancelled the f-14 tomcat and replaced them with lesser performing, but easier to maintain f/a-18's.

those same reasons are why you get into the miata.

i too face this dilemma. i have work sales trips i take the vette on. i spend up to 8 hrs in the car.

i look at my comfy crew cab truck (work pays the gas) and then my vette and decide which to take.

what is my energy level? (the vette takes more energy to drive)
how is the weather - (any threat of rain) ?
what is the current gas price ? (and remember i have to buy premium)
what highways will i be driving? (boring straight ones, or are there some good roads? congested areas?)
where will i be parking the vette ? (is it a safe area or will i have to worry about damage/theft/vandalism)

all of these play into my mind when taking a car.
usually the vette loses and i take the truck

is your vette an automatic or manual?

the reason i ask is because mine is manual and IMHO the zf is more like a truck transmission (heavy long shift throw, not buttery smooth like a honda) than a sportscar transmission

The determining factor in which vehicle I take is usually comfort, and the Vette is getting more and more difficult for the wife and I to get in and out of every year.
Plus what dizwiz said......Vette has to come down off jackstands, remove/fold/store car cover, dust it off, check tire pressure, etc. Unless it's a car function we're going to, we usually end up in one of the Grand Cherokees.

There is something to be said for easy, slow, but fun drivers. used to have a 48 CJ-2 jeep(******). It was the slowest thing on earth but I loved driving it. cars/ect just don't get any simpler than that old jeep, but has always been a favorite of mine.

My wife and I went on the same pattern....

I had a 92 6spd and I bought her a Miata. I then bought a Z06 and bought her an S2000.

These two cars are apples and oranges, so they serve different purposes. The miata and S2k are fun driving machines. Even as my Z06 was making 580whp I'd get in the S2k and have a blast. Corvette is great for shows, certain events, but Miata/S2k are great for mpg, getting out and driving. I'd have both in my garage at all times personally.

I love my vettes.
I have to choose between my '00 supercharged C5 and my '84 Z51. I keep both of them in front of my truck to keep my choices simple. If the wife is going along it has to be the C5. 6 year-old grandson alternates his choice each time, favoring the C4 slightly. If it's left to me there is no question--the C4 with 4+3 manual wins every time!

Default My choices

My "daily driver car" is a Chrysler Sebring convertible, which is a very nice driving car. My "toys" are 3 Corvettes - a 1991 supercharged coupe, a 2000 convertible and a 2002 Z06. Unless the weather is crappy or I need to have more than 2 people in the car, I take a Vette. The Chrysler does not get driven much as I am retired and do not have to drive to work everyday.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation. My Blazer's in the driveway, and the Vette's in the garage behind it. The truck's parked at the curb. My motorcycle lives in the shed. It's just too easy to roll in the truck or Blazer for day-to-day errands, and somewhat of a nuisance to get underway in the Vette. With the two-mile commute I now have, it's just not worth the effort to get it out for the daily run to work and back. The Vette has become an occasional weekend toy in recent years. The same has become true with the motorcycle, for basically the same reason.

Live well,

SJW
