Default More Diff. questions

I'm not sure if it came out through "dbWade36's" thread or not, but I am considering puting the 3.73 Zip diff in my '94 2.59 auto. I am assuming I have the smaller Dana rear and the 3.73 Zip dif is the 44. Will the Dana 44 rear bolt right in without any part/pieces modifications?

I also have read about 3.73's being made to fit the smaller Dana Carrier, any info on this method?

Where is the best place to purchase?

The lowest D36 gears ive seen are 3.33s, but i do remember someone posting a site that made lower gears for the D36.

Just remember that you cant run drag slicks with that D36, or you seriously risk breaking tons of stuff back there.

Going to a Dana 44 will require a new driveshaft and a new torque arm also.

I came accross this site the other day of a dana 36 to 44 swap. There are pictures and descriptions. http://w1.605.telia.com/~u60505093/mods.htm

BigGriz,
You can find 3.73 gears to fit your Dana's Series 2 carrier. I'd think this is the cheapest route. Unless your going to really hop up your motor, it'll work just fine. The E-town boys have made 100's of passes with drag radials on 3.73 gears. The auto trans is really easy on rear ends.
