Air dam brace needed?

I finally got around to putting the new front air dam on my 95. The brace is totally rusted, I'm about to take a 1150 mile trip and curious if I need it? Will the air dam deflect at 75mph?

I would say it is needed. Mine had a lot of surface rust. Hit it with a wire brush and some black rustoleum. Good as new.

The small tube in the middle? It's removed on my track car that gets a little over 140 mph on the straights.

haha Hard to argue with that. Ill be out by Wisconsin actually. Going to Dubuque Iowa. Basically at the wisconsion/illinois/iowa borders. Should be a fun drive, only about 7.5 hours one way.

Mine was missing on my 93 when I got it took about a year to find one! During that time I had no issues in over 2K miles.

That brace is for when you hit a dip or driveway and catch the air dam on the pavement. It prevents the air dam mount from bending when that happens.

Remounting my air dam on my '87 about 6 months after purchase (and a few hundred miles), found my brace in two pieces.

Didn't seem to matter.

Is this the brace you are talking about?

It is only held on with two bolts. It only takes a couple minutes to take it off or put it on.

Sorry if this post may be too late for your trip, but if there is any question, put it on for the trip and take it off and refinish it when you get back. It is not a big deal.
