My late husband, Chuck Tribolet, suggested I ask for help here if I chose to sell his 1987 2-door hatchback Corvette. There's still only about 38,500 original miles on this car. It has fairly new tires on it. Has always been garaged. Only one issue--A/C needs fixing. Any advice on what a fair selling price might be would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I'd keep it if it towed my boat and I could fit my bicycle in the back.

If Chuck belonged to a Corvette club, your best bet might be to ask the members for a price value, or if he had a close friend that knew the car..
I saw quite a few of his posts and was amused by some of his humor..
I would say it has a lot to do with the condition of the car. Paint and interior real nice? If car is in great shape inside and out and runs perfect I would say between 8K-9K even with having to fix the AC.
If it needs paint or interior or both needs work I would say 6K-8K.
Unless your in a hurry, I would advertise it at 10k and lower it 300 bucks a week until the phone is ringing and people are actually coming and looking at it.
I would hold at $10k for now. Dropping the price every week because of no immediate offers might be a little extreme. Buyers will note you dropping the price so many times. Spring is coming and so is sports car buying time. Lots more serious buyers with money then. If all the mechanicals check out OK, and with such little mileage, I'd estimate somewhere around $9k will bring a serious buyer.

Try this route first. Ask the club about any upcoming events, take the car there, let other Corvette folks look at it, ask them, most (all) will be happy to give you their opinion on value. You'll soon get a sense of value.
So sorry for your loss.
Thanks for all the tips. Chuck wasn't in a local club. No one else really knew much about this car. I was always telling Chuck that he needed to drive this car more than once a year for the car's sake. I think I'll advertise on ebay.

One place not to take it is Craigslist. Or at least, be very careful there. Lots of junk and scams on that site anymore. You don't know who you're talking to and what their true motives might be. Many cars are scrap on wheels and true buyers expect the value of every car to be dirt cheap.

Really?!? We bought BOTH vettes off Craigslist. Better be careful on Feebay as well.
So I will call that advise for what it is, ahem, B.S.

Good luck with the sale.
- FWIW, I bought my 90 off fleabay from a dealer. I got it for what I thought was a reasonable price. I did expect having a few issues, after all, it is a used car. the couple issues I had - brakes, and an oil leak at the rear china wall. the oil leak was somewhat of a surprise, but nothing I couldn't address, and what I considered a showstopper. I've had the car about 2.5 years, added about 10K to the clock. it's turned out to be a pretty good, reliable, driver. like anything, it's buyer beware...
I bought 3 Corvettes of Craigslist. Its different in each area.
Personally, I think $10,000 is not going to happen for that year. It better be in 100% show room
perfect condition. I just paid $10,000 for 1996 Lt4, 6-speed, Z51 with 70,000 miles.
The 96 is way more desired. Might be my location or something. I would jump at anyone
offering $8,000 for that. Sure the miles are low... but its been sitting as you said.
So... how many issues will it have from sitting?
Post pictures and options if you can. Options can have a large impact on these cars.
You could put it on consignment at a local corvette dealer or GM dealer. But I think
Craigslist in a few surrounding cities and this forum will work better.

Agreed, I watched my Vette in CL for a month before I ever contacted the PO. He never dropped the listed price in the month I was watching it, which told me he wasn't really open to negotiating on the price. I also would have waited at least another week before buying it for another drop in price had he been dropping the price like that. But then again, mine was a $4000 car that needed/needs some work. I did manage to get it for $3800 all said and done.
Funny thing about that, I was shopping CL in a circle from Charlotte, NC to Bristol, VA to Wash DC. My Vette was the best deal I found IMHO, and it was only 30 mins from my house.

Good for you! Glad YOU feel MY advice is B.S. But you should be polite enoughs to say it's just your opinion. And maybe read up on all the complaints against CL. To the OP, please be careful. If you notice how many notes in ads from sellers about scammers and 3rd parties being brought into purchases on CL anymore, maybe you will see how things can go bad quickly. It's just fact. Not B.S.

CL isn't bad as long as you are smart about it. No online transactions/ only face to face cash deals, don't meet anyone alone, meet in public places are all things I do with any CL deal, buying or selling.

This is exactly what I'm trying to say. The OP is a Widow who might be scammed or conned. It does happen. Lots of times. Not many regulations on FREE CL ads. If only a few of the "I trust everything and everyone" members here could open their minds to a friendly suggestion or warning to the OP to be careful with transactions on CL, this explaination wouldn't be neccessary. On the other hand, if they want to buy a hardly used bridge for pennies on the dollar......I'll meet them behind my Uncle Larry's house below the tracks and make them a great deal!

Correct. My opinion. With two excellent personal examples of zero trouble buying corvettes on Craigslist, after having looked at a dozen or more in two states. That's what the OP wanted folks, opinions. Guess some people are actually clever enough to avoid scams. News flash: They're everywhere.
You and, ahem, YOUR OPINION (btw, didn't notice YOU caracterizing it as such, just gospel. LOL.) offered nothing but interwebby rumors. Thanks for that. I strongly disagree.
My apologies to your offended sensibilities. I have found that some long needle nose pliers work well at retrieving wadded up panties.

Are you OK? Get a grip for gods sake! You're crying like a little child here. You are an adult, aren't you? I only offered MY advice/opinion to the OP. If you don't like it, learn to deal with it, and move on like an adult. It's an opinion forum here. Trying to slam or offend me personally because of my advice to someone here really shows how "sensitive" you must be. Sorry you got so,"ahem" butt hurt over my response to this post. Maybe you need to get out your needle nose pliers now and try to make your self a little more comfortable.
Yeah, I guess you're right there. I shouldn't have made that comment. I was wrong and I appologize. I was only trying to make a point that there are others who will take advantage of situations like the OP has. Nothing personal to her. Apparently though, because a certain member here had a good experience on CL, advice like I was trying to convey should not be taken seriously and is considered B.S. Oh well, I was just trying to help her out.
