Default Pricing on a C4

I have a c5z and know plenty about those cars but have very little knowledge on the c4's as far as their values. My brother is thinking about getting a 92 from a private seller. The car is all stock except for ported heads. Interior is in good condition as well as the exterior, except for some torn weatherstrip and a few scratches. I would say overall, condition wise, the car is about a 7 on a scaled of 1-10. It has been painted with a decent paint job. Two owner car I believe, and never wrecked as far as I know. Just looking for a ballpark estimate on the value. 101k miles on the clock. It needs four need tires but does have nice chrome c5 wheels that came stock on a c5. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I will bite first. A cream puff, all original should be around $7000.00. Deduct about grand for new tires, deduct some amount for the ported heads and some people would deduct for the repaint. all said, assuming everything else checks out, $6000.00 is where I would be.

Impossible to say without a lot more information. Check Craigs List in several major cities in your area. Autotrader and Ebay tend to be much higher than what they actually are selling for. Ballpark, somewhere between $4k-$9k, depending on location, options, color, etc.

welcome to the C4 zone!!! ok the 92 - 93 is a 1st GEN LT1 with a ECM speed density, Batchfire Injectors. auto OR manual. Manuals are much harder to find. and generally bring in more. The ZF 6peed combo has a much stronger Dana 44 and the ZF is just about bullet proof. re-paint 101k should not bring in high value. you have NO clue. who did what under the fiber & paint. it could be a NIGHTMARE.. Unfortunately the C4 is a buyer car... Great value to performance ratio. A typical 94 - 95 ZF ~ LT1 with 80k on the clock. is averaging in the 6k - 8k. Many can be found within the 5k - 6.5k a few 93 under can be found for less. within the 100+k range. just the typical suggestions ride, listen, ask. Good luck!!!

Yep, no way to give you a real price unless you provided more details. Transmission, location, etc. Depending on where you & options are that could be a $5k car or a $12k car. 6 speeds command significantly more money than automatics.

My ballparks... Automatic - 7k, Manual - 9k

Thanks for all the info guys, sorry I don't have more info on the car. It is an auto car too. The value is def a little less than what I was expecting but at the same time I'm not too surprised. Were there many issue with the 92-93 cars? I love my c5 but every common issue I've heard about with the c5 has happened to mine just about... fortunately, nothing serious though.

I don't think there's anything particular about the 92-93 cars that is more problematic than the other LT1 models, except the distributor is not vented. 95-96 models had vented distributors and were slightly more reliable. With the mileage 101,000 miles, potential issues would be distributor, water pump, heater core, wheel bearings, and general lack of maintenance (check the differential fluid). Also at 100k it's due for new plugs and probably plug wires too. Otherwise with a 20+ year old car, just watch for age-related stuff like cracked weatherstripping, fragile plastic bits, rotted suspension bushings, etc. And the interiors sometimes take a beating with sun exposure over time. Good luck.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned this, but chrome wheels did not come stock on a C5.

Good point. They are probably just polished and not chrome, I didn't pay much attention to them

94-96 cars have things that 92-93 cars don't have and the 92 may be the least desirable

off the top of my head I'd say the PCM as well transmission functions on auto trans cars 94-96 have PWM pressure control valve (shift firmness)
93 maybe one year only and not positve but 92 may have the TVI cable 700r4 combined with the bitchen ASR feature

Do you know how old the paint is ? Reason being very few people are willing to spend more than the car is worth to get it painted. Without the proper prep work the paint will look decent for a few years, but not age well at all. Figure in $6-800 for tires and another $500 or so for a weatherstrip kit and go from there. The C4 does not get a lot of love from most car guys, so they can be a great "bang for the buck", but this can also lead to indifferent repairs and upkeep.

You have to take account of the condition. My 94 interior looks like it could have only 5K miles on it, the paint is almost show quality, yet it has 70K on it. Around here it would go for a minimum of $8K, and most likely $10K or more.
