Default PKE module replacement

My PKE stopped working and now won't go into blink mode when programming. I changed the battery. I am going to give replacing the module a shot.

I have found two different part numbers, but was wondering if the part number for 94-96 (10261112) can be used in place of the 93 part number 10098465A? Evilbay seems to be a little short on these parts at a reasonable price lately.

I believe that the 10261112 is a direct replacement for the earlier, I believe there was also a 10256465 that could be used.

I replaced mine

You have to take the dash pad off, its in the center above the radio and climate control inside the dash structure. You can only get to it from the top.

You may be replacing your ignition cylinder with the weight of all those keys on it, too.

LOL - amazingly that was my first thought when I saw that snapshot but only because of the newer design failures(Saturn etc) I doubt there's any reason for concern and I'm assuming your comment was in JEST also. "kevakasper" I'm sure isn't concerned either.

I have noticed that the 10261112 part numbers have revisions that go to "G" for what I have seen. Would the latest revision be better to get? Are they less prone to failure?

Thanks,

Arman

There's many circumstances that can change a GM part #, an engineering change by GM, maybe even just a supplier change can trigger a part # change. I don't know that any would be a preferred but since it's electronic in nature I'd be inclined to think I may want the newer.

The only exception to that might be in any part that was remanufactured by/for GM. When it was done to a GM spec for GM there were rather stringent QC standards. Later/now that it's all done for GMSPO and resale/profit is the only concern I'd have my doubts.

ECM/PCM/BCM, starters, alternators and similar I'd likely have little confidence that there was a "god reason" to prefer. It's very likely the same as others offer in a different box.

Call these guys before you buy a new fob. http://mctyrelock.com/

I dropped my fob and it quit working. A few friends recommended them to me so I took my fob to them and dropped it off. When I returned they told me it was just a dead battery and didn't charge me anything. Guy that does the repairs said that most fobs are repairable if they quit working. They also shot me a replacement cost when I was there the first time incase I needed to replace it and they were cheaper than anything I found on line. I think it was like $40 cheaper they the least expensive I found on line.

Not sure why the battery died when I dropped it. Put in a new battery and it worked better than before. When I got the car I had to be right next to it before the PKE would work. Now the PKE activates when I'm within about 6 feet of the car.
