Battery went dead so I jumped the car, being careful to ground to the engine and not the battery. Once started I checked voltage which varied from 13.7 to 14.0. Noticed SYS light flashing. Waited about a half hour until voltometer gauge dropped and then stopped engine and attempted to restart. It only clicked.
Battery is new but I hadn't started it in awhile. Opinions?
Fully charge the battery with a charger. Can do damage the way your doing it. Make sure connections are good and clean. If the battery froze when dead might be gone.

The alternator will not fully charge a dead battery. You highly run the risk of damaging the car's electronics not to mention the alternator.

A flashing SYS light indicates an electrical issue.
And the number one cause is a discharged battery.
