Dangit! I hate it when this happens. Do you guys know any tricks for removing dried-on tree sap? I've already tried Brakleen and Simple Green. Smeared it around a little bit but the bulk of it is still there and not budging.
I have a spray bottle of Tar and tree sap remover. Turtle wax makes it I think. It works pretty decent. Other than that you can try polishing compound for clear coat. That will remove just about anything including the clear if you get to crazy with it.
Is WD40 actually safe for paint? I have a few nasty tree sap blobs to remove from my hood this weekend.
I know laquer thinner will instantly remove sap but I am not about to put that on my paint. I used the Turtle Wax remover but it seemed to take forever to work.
I just read in a local newspaper auto column that turpentine is the ticket! Now I hadn't tried it! Not sure I spelled it right but, according to the writer it's the right stuff! I would read the label too before purchasing!
I've used Blue Coral and it's pretty effective. Because the sap is so dry, I would soak a rag with the Blue Coral lay in on the sap for 20 to 30 minutes and then try to remove with a soaked rag. Several applications may be necessary, but don't rush it.
I'm sure solvents will do the trick. But I just finished off my RSX with a clay bar and was thoroughly impressed. I still need to do some research on why it's so effective, but it did do the job quite well. I'd recommend it.
