hey folks, i think my starter is packing it in it sometimes make no sounds when key is turned, give the starter a light tap with a wrench then go to try to start and it starts no problem. (correct me if im wrong on starter going out please)
what do you replace these starters with do they make a mini start for them as i really dont want to wrestle the old one out and put that same massive one back in if i dont have to. from all the posts on it, it doesnt sound like much fun :P
thanks in advance

It's just a starter. No more big deal to change than any most any other car.
I'd put the same back in
If what you remove is the original OE I'd have the OE "tuned-up" by a local shop UNLESS you're familiar with the older Delco-Remy 10MT, then it's a "DIY". If anything other than OE is removed it might be considered a "crap-shoot". The OE regardless of weight if operating well is likely a much better choice than a "knock-off" of a mini.

Hi
Sounds like the solenoid, you can get repair kits to fix it.
A mini starter will fit fine and they are cheap, I have one on my 85.
They are so much easier to install,
the solenoid an be indexed for any clearance required like long tube headers.
In 1988 Corvette began using a factory mini starter that was much smaller than the 84-87 starter. When I put headers on my 86' I tried an after market ministarter (it died within a year), and then found out about the 88+ starters. I bought a re-manufactured starter for an 88-91 L98. It bolts right up. I believe there was a connector change on the small wire. I just added a piece of wire with the correct connectors on each end so I would not have to alter the factory harness. It has been working fine for over 5 years now.
