0000 steel wool, mothers aluminum polish, elbow grease

In the engine bay you can use a hose to "gently" rinse off what you scrub with simple green and brushes and rags. The rear end on the other hand you can use the hose and spray away.

How do you guys handle the cast steel (i think that's what it is) on items like the CPU, alternator, A/C compressor, etc.?

@bac22
Those items are cast aluminum.
My Alt and A/C compressor are just cleaned with steel wool (make sure to disconnect the battery before using steel wool on or around you alternator).
My ECU/CPU is cleaned with steel wool and then polished with Mothers Mag Polish. I used dental polish cones and pads to get inside the cooling fins.

I just started detailing my engine compartment. I plan on painting the throttle body and polishing the alternator and A/C compressor this coming winter.

Wow! You guys are putting me to shame LOL. All of them are amazing. Thanks for the inspiration and method/product tips! I’ve come to realize that even my 73k mile car can look like new. I can’t wait to do mine, but with all I have going on I know it will take me a year to do here and there. I really need to pull the alternator and compressor, but I know what that means for me… not drivable for a long time! That’s what my hold up is. Time is all I need.
