Default Power Locks

Hello Y'all

Where would I find the unit/motor that powers the door locks on my '88 C4? Fuse is fine but the door lock switch on both doors and the rear pop button wont work. The repair manuals I have don't tell me where whatever it is is. I do turn a wrench or too and love the C4 that I have.

Thanks in advance!!!

The locks are on a circuit breaker not a regular ATO fuse in the fuse block. Neither door lock button controls neither door lock? Do you have any THEFT FORCED ENTRY issues? Does THEFT still work?

The rear hatch latch is on a circuit breaker also but operation is maybe fused and there's several requirements for operation of the hatch release dependent upon A4 transmission or a manual transmission. There's a relay involved also. Your car is A4 or MT?

The hatch opens from none of the switches? Do your courtesy lights work with the door open? Any courtesy light issues at all?

I don't see them being related being directly related in your case.

There's an actuator in each door that requires door trim removal to replace but I'd check many other options before just blindly tearing into it.

"Where would I find the unit/motor that powers the door locks"

That would be inside the doors, but if the hatch isn't working either it's probably something else. As WVZR-1 said, I believe there are three buttons to open the hatch (console and on the end of both doors), do none of those work? No sound at all?

No sounds at all for the doors or hatch. I am more concerned with the hatch as I never lock my car and the roof is always off (SoCal living). It's an A4.

Interior lights work when you open the door and Anti Theft works as my wife set it off one day now refuses to touch the car lol.

For the hatch only one button in the center glove box which I have replaced with a new one and it was quite an episode to get to it.

Is there a way to manually pop the hatch? There looks like a button inside at the base of the hatch but pressing that doesn't do anything.

TY

I'll have to check on the end of the doors for hatch pop buttons. didn't know they were there.

There is a manual (non electric) hatch release just under the carpet edge where the center of the hatch latches down. It looks like a piece of deep sea fishing leader. (Small woven steel line).

Check for corrosion on the lock switches. If one is corroded both will not work. I tested this theory when I pulled my driver side door card off. If the driver switch is not connected you will get nothing on either side.

Looking at my electrical service manual, both systems have one thing in common, the Fuse Block located behind the bread box (if you still have one) and beside the ECM. But both systems have there own circuit breaker. Hate electrical problems.
Nice white paint. Hope my 88 looks that good after the repaint coming up.

So the question is, is there power to the hatch switches?

If yours is like mine, look at the circuit breakers. Fuse panel on the right side of the dash, closest to the fender, 4th slot from the top. You have a small metal 30 amp circuit breaker there that controls the power seats and power locks.

Bumma guys,

Still no luck with most of the suggestions above. I found these fuses behind the center console and got excited, replaced them and still didn't work. All switches make no sounds and silver braided cable for manual pop was already ripped out. Didn't even know about the switches to pop the back that were on the ends of the doors. I will get better manuals for more insight when I get there.

Currently waiting on some parts. Waiting for part sucks!
