What is this?...
I was working on my C4 and I started hearing this clicking noise that was continuous. The sound remind me of a cassette player trying to eject a tape over and over. It is located behind the center display console above the radio. I disconnected it for now until someone can tell me what it is and what I do about it. I am guessing it is a relay for the security feature as after I unplug it my security light no longer lights up.

You didn't mention the year of your car - might do that when you post asking questions!
That relay's most frequent usage is the horn relay and you mention "security" lamp issues so it's likely.

Sorry you are right. 1986 is the year. I was working on the door panels and I locked the car. So I unlocked with the the key and the clicking started. The only thing that worked to stop it was unplug it.

I'm betting the horn doesn't work either!!

Yes rear hatch works although my horn does not. So I'm guessing the theft deterrent was activated some how and the clicking I heard should been accompanied by the horn going of. Only thing is I started her up and that did not stop the clicking.

The disarm switch on the driver door doesn't work. Try unlocking the passenger door with the key, and see if the clicking stops.
I'm perplexed as to how the relay can click because the security system triggered, but no horn sounds, BUT the "horn works" with the steering wheel button. It's the same relay. The horn shouldn't work with the button, but not with the alarm.
I too noticed you didn't include the year in your initial post. The date code on that relay is 242nd day (August), and because this is the C4 forum the year was 85 or 95. So it was installed in an early production 86 or 96. 96 doesn't use that relay for the horn, so it had to be a 86. Then I saw your reply with the year. Cool that I got the year without being told what it was.
