C4 Cam to replace and other parts
Thanks in advance for your help
I have a 1999 Corvette Basic stock from the factory. I think it is a C4. I was told that when I have the heads rebuilt that would be a good time to change the Cam? pep it up.
Can anyone tell me the stats on the CAM now? What brand?
Can anyone of you experts tell me what the stats are on a new one?
My Dad said something about using a RV Cam. I am guessing it has faster out of the hole shots. Does it drive slower on top end? How much does it cost? Is there anything else I need to know?
What other things should can I change?
Water Pump?
Does it have a steel timing Chain?
Radiator Flush?
Hoses?
I don't think we can replace the forward main seal unless we lower the Oil Pan.
Serpentine belt?
Marine Engines have a couple of things different. I am not sure if I should use them or not.
Brass Freeze plugs ( Block casting holes ).
Thicker Head Gaskets.
I am also opening a new thread about " Rolling Rocker Arms " here is the link.

If it's a 99 it's a C5.. and if it is a C5 I doubt there's an RV Cam for it.
I also wouldn't ever use an RV Cam willingly in any engine that's not an RV.
If it's a 99, what you want is an MS3 cam, LS6 Intake, and long tube headers.
If it's a 96 or earlier.. (That's the last year of the C4. C4s were made 84-96) there's other options... like lots of them. Personally if I had to do my project C4 over... I wouldn't have kept the small block in there. Too much money for too little gains in power. I'd have either put a big block in instead, or an LS.

Sent you a PM yesterday but I may have been too late to get your attention. Check your private message box in the upper rt of this page. Maybe I can get you some help from some C5 guys I know around here in the Texas Corvette Association. I don't think you live too far from me, maybe only a few miles.

Youll go nuts trying to make a decision from reading C5 posts
By RV your dad probably means something that does pick up power and torque but not rumpity big that long term create$ other expenses to make use of it.
There are C5s with small cams that run just as fast as large cammed ones;many make the mistake of camming a LSx like a carbed Gen 1 and are let down at the lack of torque and poor street manners
