anyone else buy a car and wonder if it just doesnt like you? i bought a 85 a couple months ago that was in the process of being put back together after a paint job so it wasnt possible to drive the car, 1st mistake. found out later the block was cracked in the intake valley, ok no problem buy a new gm crate engine, hot tank misc parts i still need and find out intake is so corroded it is unusable, got another intake, but not the correct one, sent back and find another one. then in the process of getting ready to install and dont even ask, dropped a bolt in the intake valley, it somehow fell through the dime size hole in the block and lands on top of the windage tray, no problem drop the pan remove the bolt and continue, everything is back on and getting ready to fire up now the fuel rail is spraying fuel like crazy, somehow o-ring got damaged. no problem replace and try again, car fires up and runs smooth and quiet, until the ac compressor seizes up, and that is where i am at now, my neighbors shake their heads and ask if i want a match to get rid of it, but i just say nope i love this car and just keep working on it. believe me there are numerous other little things that have happened to it during the past couple months but if all goes well it will be on the road next week. sorry it is so long but just wanted to share my story and see if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Dang!!!!
Have you told her you love her, and please stop abusing your wallet?
Mine just has a quirky electrical problem that no one has been able to fix yet. Going in for attempt #3 on monday. (new shop)
Good luck
Oh that's nothing. A friend of mine spun a bearing about this time last year. No problem, rebuild it as a 396. Order all the parts, have the block machined. While assembling have one of the rod bolts cross thread. Get new rod with new bolt, take it back to shop to clearance new rod. Shop assembles motor. Put motor back in car. Won't fire for anything. Have friend adjust the rockers, fires up, drive it home. Next day break 3 teeth off of pinion gear due to weak Z-28 rear end and dual plate clutch connected to 396. Replace rear end drive it for one night while breaking in rear gears. Park car and visit girlfriend in Chicago. Come back to town to find car sitting exactly where it was. Turn key, dead battery. Jump star, now making strange ticking noise coupled with low oil pressure. Remove intake to find brand new comp cams lifter has come apart. Replace lifter, still has ticking sound. Remove cylinder head to find that they have become soft and won't retain a valve seat. Remove motor to investigate low oil pressure. Remove oil pan, find pile of bearing shavings. Remove main caps and find that the shop used standard bearings. Take block back to shop. Have shop tell you that main caps are ruined. Purchase 4 bolt splayed main caps. Have shop line bore the new main caps for oversized bearings. Have shop recondition brand new $3000 crankshaft.
After spending all that money still have a car with no motor in it, waiting on new bearings to arrive.
Honestly in the past year he has driven the car 3 days!
You're always going to find ugly little surprises when you buy a used car, hell, you'll find 'em in a new car, too. The Corvette is one of the few cars I can think of that people don't mind dealing with these types things because once they're sorted out, look what you're left with; A Corvette!
Don't get discouraged, most of us are on a bugaboo hunt of some kind, but it's worth it.
my neighbors shake their heads and ask if i want a match to get rid of it, but i just say nope i love this car and just keep working on it.
When you've got it on the road again, take 'em out and make 'em eat those words.
When I bought my 89 used it gave me hell for the first 18 months.
bent rims, altenator, heater core, master cylinder,etc..... good thing
I bought the extended warranty!
It has been a wonderful car since and it is all part of being a Corvette
owner. Don't give up!

Re: car from hell? (borris)
LoL I have one. Parents believe it's straight from hell. Luckily for me it likes me. Just hates everyone else. ;) Last post I made would explain it a little more. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=382120
