Might want to tighten the screw in the tire. And try to get the price down.

That is the L98 engine, often referred to as a torque monster. After that last experience with the red one, just make sure you look this one over very closely. If all checks out well, and you drive it, and you want it, you can probably get it for less than they are asking. 144,000 miles is not excessive for these cars, but higher mileage does affect the overall value. Cash talks.

As 1slov6 pointed out, ask about the history of the engine. Looks to have earlier perimeter valve cover mounting so ask what happened to the original heads or engine all together.

First off, who is "they"? Second, with what did they rebuild the engine? Third, why did they rebuild the engine? IF the heads were trashed, why didn't they get the right heads? Did they slap something they dragged in from the junkyard? I don't mind if you take the junkyard heads and rebuilt them properly but if you just grabbed something that fits, that is another story.

This car is at a used car lot. The seller said he's selling it for a older gentleman. The seller said he knows nothing about it besides they rebuilt the engine. He did give me the owners name and number so I will call him tomorrow. Does the engine look that bad?

For your consideration allow me to pass along two pieces of advice:

1) Consider investing $20.00 and buy yourself a copy of the Corvette Black Book. In it you will find 2 - 3 pages of details on each year corvette. This will allow you to easily see what options were available and how the C4 changes during it many years of production.

2) drive as many C4 corvettes as you can (at least a half dozen) before you buy one. This way you will learn to feel the difference in driving a vette that has been well maintained vs. one that's been beat to s**t.

This way when you go to buy one you will have more knowledge and seat-of-the-pants driving experience and hopefully you will not end up with a car that you thought was a bargain........ but costs you twice the price to get in daily driving condition.

After putting more than 100K miles on my 95 I can tell you that the vast majority of the time.........with a C4 corvette ..... you get what you pay for. (comprende?)

Best of luck and take your time there are lots of C4's out there for sale.

Good catch!

L98 is a pretty reliable engine. Had one in my '89 IROC. Should not have needed rebuilding at 144k. Why the heads were changed would be a good question for the owner.

Sounds like the car is being sold at a dealer on consignment. If you decide this is the one you want, there should be a lot of wiggle room in the price.

As already stated, there many C4's in the marketplace, don't make a hasty decision.

Not only is there a screw in the one tire, it looks about worn out. If you have to replace tires, that's gonna cost. The engine looks clean, but the heads are not the ones that should be on the original motor. Now we have no clue on the motors story or history, that's something you should find out. Looks like this one is giving you a same path as the red one, lots of questions and assumptions. You are going to have to realize that unless you get an original owner car, you will not ever know what the car has gone thru over the last 20-25 years. Also need to quit nitpicking and decide what is important, and what can you spend once you get the car if you have to spend anything at all. I bought my 92 almost 9 months ago with 130,000 on the clock, and have put 7000 miles on it and the only thing I have bought is little things that even though it ran, they needed to be replaced like a idler pulley and serp. belt and a couple vacuum hoses. Just drive the cars, look for noises. Take the car on back roads and on the highway, make sure everything works, and what doesn't, remember it. figure the costs to fix and replace these things, and how quickly they need to be fixed.
Go have fun.

Ok friends. I finally literally purchased a corvette. It's a 1985 corvette. I got it for 5,000 from a private seller. 83,000 miles. It has a oil leak and needs some new rotors. The wheels make a quiet whistling sound. So any idea what kind of brakes to get and from where? Auto zone?

Where is the leak from? Valve Covers? China Wall? Rear Mains? Oil Pan?

Rotors and Pads. You don't need to drive the car but if you do drive it, please be able to stop.
