Just purchase my first Corvette. 1996 White convertible with red interior. 21K miles original owner. Any recommendations for a performance exhaust system with a great sound and a chip?

Congrats! Post pics! Exhaust depends on how much you want to spend. Chip won't do anything expect make your wallet smaller.

Welcome! For exhaust there are lots of options. The cheapest route would be muffler eliminators for about $160. I did this on my 96 LT4 convertible and it sounds really good but there is some mild drone in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range. It's easy to drive around that range with the manual trans but if you're automatic it could be something to think about. If you want drone-free the only exhaust that is generally regarded to be so is Corsa, at a cost of about $1,400.

96 is OBD2 so there is no chip. You can do a mail-order tune, the most commonly mentioned company here is pcmforless.com but there are others as well. You can either send them your pcm or pay an additional charge for them to provide one. On a stock car you might see a few horsepower from a tune but don't expect anything drastic. I've done the pcmforless tune and am very pleased with it but I have a hot cam in mine so the tune was required.

Thank you for your response! Since it's an automatic, I will look into the Corsa exhaust based on your comments. Do you have any recommendations on where to purchase the Corsa? It appears that the chip idea is a waste of money?

Congrads on your new to you '96-sounds like a real gem. Our '95 vert has flow masters and we are very pleased with the sound and no noticeable drone. Of course you would not want to go with the loudest option. Enjoy the drive.

I also have flow masters on our GMC 1500 and love the sound at idle. Got the ones that quiet down when you are cruising which is the same ones on the vette. To my ears the flow masters are the best bang for the buck!
