After reading lots of horror stories on getting the engine wet.Car and engine came to me spotless a year and half ago.I have kept it wipe down and semi clean that way.Is using compressed air a no no?Got some dust and grim in hard to reach places.Got some shows coming up in a month. So any tips or videos I can get will be appreciated...
I pressure washed and de-greased my car top to bottom when I got it back from being neglected by my parents for about 5 years. I just did the obvious and stayed away from electrical connections and I had no problems.

I see you jacking up the one side. What do you use under the car? Degreaser there too? I am trying to pick up as many tips as I can on cleaning. The wife shut me done on buying any new parts so I have switched to cleaners and wax. I never thought about cleaning the underside. But plan on doing it now. Thanks for the pic.
I just bought a bunch of cans of engine de-greaser. Sprayed it on all the spots that had years of caked on grease. Let it soak in for a bit (the can probably tells you how long you should do it for) then pressure washed it all off. I brakaleen'd all the other areas. I use a ton of brake-cleaner on all my projects. Don't ever get that stuff on plastics though. If you think your going to make a mess its really worth just doing it at a car wash bay. Like you noticed though, with a jack you can really get everything.
Some people say leave the engine running when using water around the engine and some say wash a cold engine. I read one guy saying the steam will get into the distributor. I always left an engine running? I don't know which is best?
When I go to the car wash bay, I leave mine running, just personal preference to me. FYI to anyone that doesn't know; don't use a steel brush on aluminum parts, use a stainless brush. The stainless will get the part brighter. I believe some steel brushes will darken/stain the aluminum.
Looking good so far. I have been reluctant to use a power washer on the engine to date. I don't think it needs it. I used steam to clean one side of my Upper/Lower control arms, shocks & caliper so far. Did an excellent job. As soon as I finish I will post some pic's.
A good pressure wash does wonders. I removed all inner wheel wells, also the spare and cover the motor with a tarp.
I might give your method a try?I just can't bring myself to hose down my engine. With my luck, wouldn't be pretty.Think I'II cover the engine and hose down the suspension and wheel wells and such.
What is a good mild cleaner that won't stain my polished aluminum ?
After you clean the engine and suspension, go to the parts store and get some Eagle 1 etching mag cleaner. Spray it on the aluminum suspension parts and wash off after about 30 seconds. Makes it look new, not polished, but like new
