I own a 1989 Corvette. I want to know has anyone ever put speakers in arch that forms the roof. I am going to replace the bose speakers and GM head set. On my 1984 I took the dash apart and put speakers in the dash. And that helped. Put not enough so that I could hear music at speed without blasting the stereo or resorting to using my bluetooth head set. And for that matter is there a speaker that will mount on the windshield support. Just wondering. I hate blasting sound all over the place. Thank you
85 and 90 here - barely listen the radio in either car. top off, windows down, crusin' speed - can't hear anything but the wind, the road, and the exhaust anyway. I do however, turn the radio on every once in awhile though, just to exercise the power antenna -
Sorry can't help, no experience there and not gonna be doing anything w/ the speakers anytime soon. I say to definitely try it! well if you can take the paneling off to see what kind of room you're working with.
I'm an audiophile and dig anything for better sound
For the coupe the best you get sound wise (clarity and volume, not bass) are 4x6 plate mounts in the dash. Infinity Kapa series 4x6's are the best Ive seen for that.
For a convertible the 6x9's in the factory locations right behind the seats work so well you cant hear the other speakers in the car so that's best for a convertible.

There is no hidden room inside the plastic halo. Tweeters maybe but no room for base.
If your bound and determined for anything closer to your head then cut the foam in the headrest and install speakers in it like the Pontiac fiero and the mazda Miata have from the factory.

I actually thought of installing them in or on the head rest. I buy bluetooth audio so I can use my phone. Impossible to do with the present configuration. Thank you all

I have Bluetooth in my 87 convertible but I installed a pioneer radio/nav unit to get it.
i wanted to keep the factory stereo look so badly that i rigged up the aux in jack sold here by a forum member on ebay, and then put a bluetooth gateway into the aux in jack.
voila. bluetooth with the factory head.
problem is, the sound quality coming out of my speakers (no fault of the bluetooth setup) is garbage. the head unit is mostly shot and the speakers are horrible.
so this winter i will do an audio makeover.
i am searching for a single din touchscreen with backup cam. new speakers. going uo install speakers under the window grills.

Id go double din. Works great and you wont be able to make out anything reverse camera wise with a single din unless its a fold out and those get old fast waiting on the screen to fold out. Had that in my 86.
I removed the radio etc from my '87 as it makes its own music, but I do have one of these (decent sound and bass effect) with my favourite sounds on a micro SD card as it fits into a cup holder..
89 coupe here too. I replaced my entire stereo system including new speaker wire with all Kenwood components, and a 40w power amp. The sound is fantastic considering it's not a musical concert hall. I used 6X9s in the rear mounted in the factory boxes and 5.25"ers in the doors, also in the factory boxes. You have to crank it up a bit to hear it at speed with windows down but it goes louder than I can stand with little to no distortion.
As for the halo mounting, maybe if you could find a surface mount speaker but the halo is not thick enough to flush mount a speaker, and you don't want to do any cutting on that part.
