My temp gauge is not working changed both sensors . its an 87 tune port. 5.7 vette .right when i turned it on it goes hot in the matter of seconds.i pulled the wire on the sensor between the 6 an 8 spark plug an grounded it an went straight to 299 what can i do to fix gauge or find out y its saying its heating up but its not.... Plz someone help

what does gauge read with sensor unpluged?

I would have thought you would have seen 330° - if the cluster were good! In the FSM there are values that you could supply to the cluster to check gauge accuracy BUT "KEY ON/RUN" disconnected I'd think you should see LO.

Here's the values to supply to the GAUGE and what to EXPECT if you can:

A d j u s t the resistance dials of the tester
to 1600, 1060, 254, 135 and 75 ohms. The Display
should indicate L O , 110, 180, 220 and
261 °F +/-6°F

or L O , 43, 82, 104, and 127°C ±
3°C.


• If the Display indicates correctly, replace
the Coolant Temperature Sender.
