Default AC Rebuild

AC compressor turns kinda hard and also seizes after warmed up during hot weather. Anyone here ever rebuild a compressor? I found the bearings I need(I think)pretty cheap and figured it may be an easy job to tackle.

If your are thinking about internal compressor repairs not simple normally requiring special tools. You won't know what you got until it's apart. The front clutch and pulley assembly is serviceable. It does require a puller / installer and there should be a video. Normally if it's seizing; there is an internal failure and time for new compressor. You could try some kinda a/c miracle treatment that fixes everything first. I have no favorite to recommend.

You should give some indication as to what year car!

Very few people disassemble and reseal a pump as it is, even fewer overhaul/replace internal components.. the risk of "Black Death" scares many!

But you seem like a brave soul, open her up and take a look inside. Was this a compressor that was previously involved in an 134 conversion by chance?

this could possibly just be a case of [Low oil] in the system, and not necessarily damaged bearings..

Why don't you deep six that sucker into the nearest garbage dump and buy another one. You will be much happier because your ac will work.

- for my 85, I bought a new, R4 service replacement, delco unit for around $175.
