I purchased a 1994 C4 in mint condition in Jan...Really would like to detail the engine compartment. Heard you need to be very careful about getting the Opti wet...Has never been out in bad weather. Any suggestions on cleaning ?? I heard simple green/water works well with a gentle wash. Just worried about getting things wet under there

Stuff some rags around the optispark and don't spray any water in that direction. Also wrap the alternator in a few plastic bags with tape or rubber bands. Then you can feel comfortable going to town with simple green and a garden hose nozzle.
You can use a power washer, but don't focus the tip too close to anything. Strong power washers can actually cut if you get the tip too close... it's a lot of pressure focused intensely to a single point. I would steer clear of electrical connections. Any questionable areas, just clean them by hand after rinsing the engine. Then run the engine to get everything dry... take her for a ride.
And do a search, there's lots of information on washing the Gen2 LT1/LT4.

Just try to avoid having water run directly down onto the opti. I always use a very light spray from the hose, or even no nozzle at all. Spray your favorite degreaser/cleaner on one area at a time, work it in with an old paint brush, and rinse lightly.
