Default Dipstick question

No, not that dipstick, the one on the engine. Mine came with a broken end, the yellow cap with the finger hole. I notice an oil smell when running hot and noticed the plug wires next to the dipstick tube are oil covered as is the tube itself. I've had other new cars that run rough without a sealed crankcase like when I pull out the stick with the engine running. Does the 95 have a system the needs a good seal to run properly. Mine runs great, starts easy, good power and economy (28.5mpg at 70mph, 90F air temp). I was able to mold a plug around the broken end but its not a "perfect" seal. Should I just buy a new dipstick and be done with it?

I see that it is sealed with an O ring. Indeed, its a "no brainer". The question is do I go with the GM original, plain jane for 20 bucks or pop for the aluminum billet one from Summit for $100. I do love that car.

Its a matter of preference. $20 satisfies the requirement and $80 is leftover for gas money. $100 satisfies the owner. Either way you win and the problem is resolved.
