rear window struts

Default rear window struts

on original 85 went to replace struts and were not any clips. looks like original tied into window with bolt . has any body seen this . Even if you take bold off no way to get strut off ??? need help

I am not certain on the 85 but on the 90 and 91 the "clips" are a metal band on the top and bottom of the unit. You gently pry up the band until is loosens to where you can get the strut off the attachment bolts. Make sure you use a block of wood or something to hold the hatch glass into position so you can change the struts out without trying to hold the hatch glass up at the same time. GC

you unclip from the bolt

They have a ''C'' shaped clip its painted black not easy to see, use a screwdriver to release it. You can also twist the strut and use a large screwdriver to pop it off the ball.

I replaced my rear struts a couple of years ago and they came with the clips, have a close look and feel for the spring clip.
(The spring clips are on the back of the strut), you can also unscrew the strut ends.
