Radiator Cooling Fan
At what temp is the radiator cooling fan supposed to come on? Is there one or two fans and what's the main mechanical reason if it doesn't come on? 87 owner. Thanks.

Reason for "NOT RUNNING" could be many! If you've two which one(s) don't and if NONE @ the mentioned 227° +/- you have issues. Could be CTS for the ECM, bad motor OR ....... With AC on the fan should run.

I've only had the 87 for a few weeks and it's never been above 227 degrees. When I picked it up in Idaho I had to get a new radiator installed before my 500 mile trip back to oregon. Radiator had a large hole in it. Anyways the mechanic said my fan wasn't working and created a switch for me to manually turn the fan on to get me home with the idea I'd fix it when I made it home. I still haven't fixed it and just turn the fan on before I drive and flip it off when done. I have a feeling I don't even need the switch because how would that mechanic in Idaho know that it doesn't come on at 227 degrees????

It seems like each and every year is different and people seem to answer according to what they own. So you need to talk with people who own a 87 or look it up in a S/M.

You test the fan by pulling the plug and power with a battery charger or jumpers off the battery.

Main cooling fan
I have an 87 and went through the exact same issue you are speaking about, last week. If you unplug the 3 wire connectors on you ac line right by the fire wall your fan should run and stay running until you plug the connectors back in. If you want to jump the fans to see if the wire is intact put 12 volts to the black with purple stripe FROM the fan relay. The fan should run. Do the same with the aux fan relay that feeds your pusher aux. fan. Same color wire..black/purple stripe..That relay is on your rad support on the drivers side.
Also if you put a paper clip/piece of hay wire and join the last 2 terminals on the TOP row on the right of your ADL terminal your main fan should run.
I found I had a broken wire going into my fan relay connector..put a new connector pig tail on and it works just fine now....pour your self a coffee and find some patience and check the connectors.....Ol vette
