It is held by a single screw to the metal piece under the steering wheel. I reinstalled my repaired digital display yesterday, and that needed to attach to the metal cover under the carpeted piece under the steering column. I'm not sure what it is on the C4, but on my other cars it's where you plug into the computer.
HI, I'm trying identify a wire harness plug thats hanging from under my drivers side dash. I was wondering if someone could help me out?
This is the plug in question. What do these wires goto or what does this plug into?
Even without seeing the other side of the connector, my feeling is it's for diagnostics especially given the area it's located. Diagnostic connector is located below the driver side dash to the right of the steering column.
If you remove the carpeted cover - about four scews, then drop the metal cover - another four screws - you can reattach it to the lower end of the metal cover where it belongs. Then put the covers back on. This is a five minute job once you get the tools out.

I got my C4 used, and it didn't come with a cover.
I bought my 89 a few weeks ago. The cover was in the storage compartment. I guess the last guy forgot to replace it. I'm sure you could find a replacement on the cheap.

None of my other vehicles have covers over that port, so I guess it's not too important - but it looks nicer.
Does anyone know how that mounts down there? Mine was attached to the metal plate under the carpet, and now when I put the carpet piece back on the port goes under the carpet. I must be doing something wrong.......
