Helping with a Corvette Show locally. have regular 84-96 class which is what they checked but show also has a Z class for all Z06/ZR1 and ZR-1. Entry says it is a Red 94 Hardtop. That says to me it is a Zr-1 and belongs in the Z class. Did GM produce Vettes with Hdtps that weren't a Zr-1. Know they had aux. HT made but.......

You can definitely tell what it is if you have the vin #.
1g1yy2 is a C4 2 door coupe, hatch back with removable targa top.
1g1yy3 is a C4 2 door vert.
1g1yz2 is a ZR-1 which were all coupes, hatch back, targa top.
Most people when they use the term hardtop is a vert with the optional top.

I believe that this VIN identification procedure would TRUMP any other interpretation one might assume or an owner imply. Even SPO sometimes referred to a coupe as a "plainback". The actual owner of the '94 in question might not actually even know!
OP - You can actually likely dumbfound the owner and some of your other "helpers" with a very interesting catch you've made on the entry. It might be interesting if you post back with what the actual entry is!!
***An interesting exception to the VIN identifier would be an '86 which would be identified as a 1YY07 for a coupe and a 1YY67 for a 'vert. '87 on the idenifier mentioned by HOV is correct.

The answer to your question is Yes! The entrant most likely knows whether or not he owns a ZR-1 and would have checked that box. Is there a box for Convertibles?
The '94 coupe can also be referred to as a "removable hard top". If this was a convertible with the optional hard top I would think the owner would have checked the "Convertible" box.
If in doubt contact the owner and ask for the first 6 digits of the VIN and then see this post.
