I changed out the spark plugs tonight and relaized after my drive that the temp gauge is registering at less than 100 degree and I know its hotter. Could I have somehow dissconnected the gauge?
Also, how do you get the radiator cap off. I twisted and it doesnt pop off?
You might have broken off the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. It sticks out of the front of the water pump and is fairly easy to brush/knock/crack.
Is the system still hot? We've got safety caps that don't let the thing come off of the system is still hot/pressurized. Turn it until you feel the first detent. Wait for the hissing to stop. Press down on it and continue turning.
