I changed both sides on my '93 Ruby, seemed pretty equal in degree of difficulty - and probably one of the easier c4 repairs i've attempted. There are good U-tube videos that really help.
I guess being right or left handed could affect things.
Do both sides tho, the 2nd one is always much easier!

Just finished doing my 89. Tip: 2" masking tape around the perimeter of the headlight door as a precaution against scratching during removal and reinstallation of the assembly.
Driver side vs Passenger side difference: gear cover is reversed and I found the passenger side a bit more tricky than the left. Passenger side gear was stuck inside housing and it took some doing to remove it. I also "notched" the gear on the passenger side so I could install it back into the housing without a struggle. Vaseline or white grease is handy in keeping those little washers in place during assembly and for a light coating on the gears. I used compressed air to blow out the dust and particles that were left over from the old pucks. I bought a kit on ebay that included both gears and 6 pucks for $38 shipped. Total time around 3 hours including cleaning up after the job.

I did this repair on my 88 back in 2001. First time I had ever attempted a repair like this other than doing regular engine or suspension work. At that time I had no YouTube or camera phone for help but did have the Corvette Forum. That's when and why I joined. This repair will take you a good afternoon.

YouTube has an excellent video posted by Willcox Chevrolet. Really good and probably the cheapest thing you'll ever get from a dealer.

It's not necessary to disassemble the entire motor as shown in this video. Most advise against it. The plastic gears and pucks can be accessed without doing all that.
