Default Windshield Frame

I recently saw some pics of a C4 with the windshield removed and it looked like a lot of rust in the channel but really couldn't tell by the pics. Is this a known rust area? I'd like to replace mine before the paint job and if there's any corrosion in the channel, deal with that.

Yes, it's a known rust area. Probably only rust area on the car. Should be fixed and sealed before new windshield install.

I also believe the windshield reveal molding has some sort of putty or something in there from factory to keep water out of there. So the reveal molding and frame should be cleaned up and resealed when the reveal molding is installed. Don't know what people are using for this on windshield installs.

Some also get a syringe, fill with some kind of sealant and run a bead of sealant under the installed reveal molding between the glass to help keep water from going under the reveal molding vs just relying on the sealant that was used on reveal molding install.

Also the weatherstrip retainers backside and windshield frame needs old foam sealant cleaned off and make sure the retainers aren't bent. But around on the forum someone has posted 3M part numbers of the foam tape supposedly GM recommends to be used on backside of weatherstrip channels to seal them to keep water from dumping in the car.
