Default Strip it or flip it

'94 base coupe, 230K miles.
Black Rose
Looks good, runs great.
Modified a bit:
electric water pump
3 row, all aluminum radiator
Performabuilt auto trans with 50K on it
2400 stall
auxilery trans cooler
Corsa cat back
Bailey Engineering Coil packs
All of the mods that claim to give you 5 HP
3.07 rear gear
Dual power seats
Bose gold
Auto HVAC
HID fog lights
Saw blades
Non working PKE

KBB says it's worth about $4K

I found a deal on a '02 vert. Weighing my options.

Sell it in one piece and get what you want. I would keep it.

To consider stripping this car is a total insult! Yes, I know it's your car, but the though of stripping it makes me vomit! I've seen a few 'vette's at my local wrecker that would have been restoreable, but none this nice! This car can provide someone with many more exciting and enjoyable miles! If you don't want it, flip it for sure!

230k is going to make it a "hard sell". I don't think you'll find many (if any) to pay $4k for it. We all KNOW C4's have become the "dime-a-dozen" car. I have to think you need to treat it like any other "beater".

That's not saying it IS a beater. If not, maybe you SHOULD keep it for a 2nd (or 3rd?) car? My choice might include rehab OR 8.5" wheels all-around to see IF a C4 can make a decent winter car. Especially if you're looking at a newer one.

There was a time when I considered just what I said...buying another C4 to convert to a winter driver. It would have to have traction control, 8.5" wheels, and Blizzaks.

If you don't have a job and NEED to make money buy stripping a car down, then maybe it becomes a consideration. Even then, I'm not sure how much (per hour) you can make off a car with that kind of mileage.

Sort of depends on how much you want the '02 and what sort of shape it is in. Lacking an advertising network and contacts it could easily take a year to sell off the parts unless you sell for 25 cents on a buck at the used price. Then there is the problem potentially with zoning if you live in a small town with what they will call a junk car in your driveway.

I totally agree with Ddahlgren. It depends on how much you want that '02 Vert and what condition it is in and what it needs if anything. Also you know what you have in the '94. If you decide to sell the '94, sell it as a whole car. I would not part it out. Too much work and no guarantee that you will sell all the parts in a timely manner.
Advertise it here on the forum with all details and plenty of pictures and see what happens. Good Luck.

I'm still hemmin' and hawin' about this. I may get the c5 I may keep the c4.
My wife might not think too highly about another car laying around so keeping both might be dicey.
I have 3 on the road and 4 off the road. My c4 is my 1st 'vette and I have put a lot of work into it.
It's a blast to drive and I put more than 500 miles a week on it

I appreciate y'all's comments even if you call me crazy.

This is the one I'm looking at. It's a very highly optioned car and close to perfect.

then sell it the fastest way possible
parting cars out is a hassle. If you take in account your labor probably a losing proposition. Plus the trans/rearend always disappears first, moving it aorund will be tough.
4k for a running LT1 vette will attract a buyer even with high miles. If it runs/rolls should sell without too much hassle. Heck even if you took a little less its gone and onto the C5 quick.

Keep it and buy the C5 Vert and sell one of the cars off the road. This way the wife won't complain. Same number of cars. BTW if that C5 Vert is Electron Blue you will really like it. Still wish I had 2003 EB coupe.

I'd keep the car if you drive it 500 miles a week reliably, unless you want to put a lot of miles on that newer vette or have another car you'd wanna put the miles onto.

I choose to drive a Corvette because I drive 500 miles a week. It makes the drive more fun. (NC to Fairfax Va and back every week.)
The c5 has 129K on it.

Turbo Bob,
Yes, It's 779J Electron Blue Metallic. That's why it caught my eye.

Coming from someone who has way too many cars.......if you do not need the money from the sale for the next one, or if it is worth more to you than the $3k ish that you will wind up getting if you sell it may as well just keep it. You can never have too many cars, just not enough garage spaces.

But beware. I use that strategy too, but it wound up that I had to build another garage.

I daily drove an '88 and then a '94 for about 5 years with about the same commute as you (about 100 miles per day to work and back)

They are fun cars and actually made me look forward to the drive.

All these running DD C4s are on the East Coast

Not my opinion but what I've seen on the forum: C4 is more fun to drive than the C5. Keep it for your drive!

With that mileage, if its well maintained and keeps the grin on your face, maybe use the C4 as a daily and keep the miles off the C5.

At this point, its a hard sell, and almost not worth it. Plus, living in NC, winter is not a major concern (I'm from Fayetteville originally). You could easily drive it year round.

So I guess I agree with the "beater" route. If we didn't have crazy nasty winters in WI, that's exactly what I would do. I commute 150 miles a day round trip. Vettes make perfect cars for it until the snow flies.

:Or maybe I should put a torch to it and watch it burn.

It died this morning. No spark.

You know what that, usually, means.
