Default trans indicator lite

94 auto c4 shift(gear) indicator lite does not illuminate,how would I change bulb?or check power to bulb socket need access instuctions looked at FSM coulde not find directions.

Screws in the console and ashtray.

Note that the shift **** on an A4 has a different removal process. Remove the button to find a snap ring instead of a threaded rod. After removal of the snap ring the **** just pulls straight up and off.
Also note that you will find 2 lamp sockets under the shift plate. One of them will be empty and has no wires going to it. Why? No one seems to know but some here have run power to that empty socket and now have extra brightness for the shifter indicator.

My theory is that they used the same shifter mechanism on several different cars and some use the socket in the front.

Buy a LED bright white bulb to replace the old filament type that came with your car. You'll be glad you did. Now's a good time to replace the shifter boot and **** if they are both well worn. When putting the console back on make sure the orange/red shift indicator lines up with the shifter pin (what ever it is called).

Any video or detailed instructions would be nice as I don't want to break indicator orange pin when replacing bulb,boot and **** are in good condition.
